Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Myanmar has ushered in a new era for the "Paukphaw" (fraternal) friendship between the two countries.
President Xi’s visit, from Friday to Saturday, has yielded fruitful results.
During the visit, Xi attended 12 events, witnessed the signing of 29 cooperation documents covering various fields, as well as the issuance of a China-Myanmar joint statement.
The two countries agreed to build a China-Myanmar community of shared future, which has received positive responses from various ethnic groups and political parties in Myanmar, as they say the Myanmar people stay closely aligned when it comes to strengthening the friendly ties and deepening the Paukphaw friendship with China.
Myanmar President U Win Myint said Myanmar supports Xi’s proposal of building a community of shared future for mankind, and is willing to work closely with China to build a Myanmar-China community of shared future, which is of great significance to Myanmar’s future national development.
Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi said the Paukphaw friendship between the two countries has stood the test of changing times and only the two countries themselves can fully understand its profound meanings.
Xi stressed that China will join hands with Myanmar to advance the key China-Myanmar Economic Corridor projects within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, and focus on bringing more benefits to the local people.
Myanmar Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Min Aung Hlaing said the Myanmar military will play its role in firmly supporting and promoting the joint endeavor to build the Belt and Road.
During the visit, the leaders of the two countries reviewed the history, envisioned the future and exchanged their experiences in state governance.
The Myanmar leader briefed the Chinese side on the country’s stance on the issue of its Rakhine State, and welcomed China to continue playing a constructive role in promoting peace and advancing the national reconciliation process in Myanmar.
The leaders of the two countries stressed that they will continue to uphold the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, jointly defend the purposes and principles of the United Nanions Charter, work together to safeguard developing countries’ common interests and uphold international justice and fairness.
By selecting the neighboring country Myanmar that has a thousand-year-long Paukphaw friendship with China as the destination of his first oversea visit in the new year, President Xi has once again put into practice China’s drive to promote the concept of building a community of shared future for mankind in the neighboring regions.
