భారత క్రికెట్ బోర్డు నియంత్రణ మండలి(బీసీసీఐ) అధ్యక్షుడిగా సౌరభ్ గంగూలీ ఎన్నిక లాంఛనమైంది. ఇదే జరిగితే 65 ఏళ్ల అనంతరం బీసీసీఐ అత్యున్నత పదవి చేపట్టిన మొదటి భారత క్రికెటర్గా గుర్తింపు తెచ్చుకుంటాడు దాదా. అంతకుముందు విజయనగరం మహారాజా, మాజీ ఆటగాడు విజ్జీ బీసీసీఐ అధ్యక్షుడిగా బాధ్యతలు నిర్వర్తించాడు,

విజ్జీ అసలు పేరు పూసపాటి విజయానంద గజపతిరాజు. ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్లోని విజయనగరంలో జన్మించిన ఈయన 1936లో భారత్ తరపున మూడు టెస్టులకు ప్రాతినిధ్యం వహించాడు. అనంతరం 1954 నుంచి 1956 వరకు బీసీసీఐ అధ్యక్షుడిగా పనిచేశాడు.

విజ్జీ తర్వాత సునీల్ గావస్కర్, శివలాల్ యాదవ్ ఈ పదవిలో సేవలందించారు. అయితే వీరిద్దరూ పూర్తి కాలం బాధ్యతలు నిర్వర్తించలేదు. 2014లో తాత్కాలికంగానే పనిచేశారు. ఈ నెల 23న జరిగే ఎన్నికల్లో గంగూలీ బీసీసీఐ అధ్యక్షుడిగా ఎన్నికైతే... పూర్తి కాలానికి ఆ పదవి చేపట్టిన రెండో భారత క్రికెటర్గా గుర్తింపు తెచ్చుకుంటాడు.

నామినేషన్లు దాఖలు చేయడానికి సోమవారమే ఆఖరి రోజు. బోర్డు కార్యదర్శిగా కేంద్ర హోంమంత్రి తనయుడు జై షా... కోశాధికారిగా అరుణ్ ధూమల్ బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టనున్నారు. బీసీసీఐ మాజీ అధ్యక్షుడు అనురాగ్ ఠాకూర్ సోదరుడే ధూమల్.

"Here I would like to reiterate the government's position in the election. Our position is clear. The District Council Ordinary election in every four years is an important chain of Hong Kong's political system. More than 400 district councilors will be elected to serve all residents in Hong Kong. The SAR government will do its best to organize a fair, open and honest election."

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR) Chief Executive Carrie Lam called on the Hong Kong residents to strongly support the police as the rioters have caused horrible damages to the society at the weekly news briefing on Tuesday morning.
Lam said the violent acts by the rioters are undermining social orders, and casting shadow on the SAR government.
"Apart from targeting the police, the rioters also vandalized objects they have chosen wantonly. They even set fire to the targeted office buildings and stores. The damage they have caused is horrible to see," said Lam.
Therefore she called on the residents to give support to the law enforcement department, otherwise more innocent people will be injured.
"Social security relies on observance of the law by all residents. Also we should support law enforcement department, so let us support the police to strictly enforce the law, otherwise the rioters will have nothing to fear and go even further to hurt more innocent residents," said Lam.
Lam also promised a "fair, open and honest" District Council Ordinary Election which is slated on Nov. 24.
