1. 00:00 SOUNDBITE (English): Alexander Zverev, seventh seed:
(on there being less pressure on him this year because the pressure is shared by all Next Gen players)
"Yeah. I mean. Last year I came in winning the (ATP) World Tour Finals, beating maybe the two best players of all time, in the semi-finals and final. So, of course. And I was also kind of the only young guy still. Now, you got (Stefanos) Tsitsipas, you got (Daniil) Medvedev, you got (Denis) Shapovalov, you know Dominic (Thiem) is playing well, but he's not Next Gen anymore or something like that. So, I just think that there's more young guys that are playing better and the attention is going towards them as well a little bit."
2. SOUNDBITE (English): Alexander Zverev, seventh seed:
(on the challenges of being a top level tennis player today compared to 20 years ago)
"To read what's going on and to read the press or something that you had to buy a newspaper, or you had to go on your laptop and really search for it. Now you open up Instagram and you know, there's five million people that have an opinion about you, all of a sudden. So, I think that has changed in that regard. And it's maybe more difficult for us now. But on the other hand, the guys with Novak, Rafa and Roger simply, they're better than us because they're winning. Now, Medvedev is coming through. I've won a few things, Tsitsipas has won a few things. So, yeah, those guys. Dominic, obviously as well. So us guys. Yes, you need to count them as maybe contenders for big titles, contenders to do well in major tournaments. But I think is it more difficult for us than 20 years ago? Yes. Maybe because of the social media, of the mobile phones, of the opinions that everybody can spread out on the Internet. And even though when people say they don't care, they still read it in the back of their mind they're aware of it."
3. SOUNDBITE (English): Alexander Zverev, seventh seed:
"I think once one of us wins it I think is going be easier for the others (Next Gen). I think so, because we always look at each other as well. When I kind of started winning master series, all of a sudden the other guys came through. Then (Karen) Khachanov won a masters series. Now Medvedev won a master series. Dominic. You know, now Medvedev got to the U.S. Open final. We'll see how the young guys will do. But I think it also started with Tsitsipas getting to the semis here. He was also the first young guy, then Medvedev got to the final. I've made two quarterfinals, but I think we help each other, even though that maybe some of us don't want to admit it."

5. SOUNDBITE (English): Dominic Thiem, fifth seed:
(on game against Alex Bolt)
"Well, I think that I had the match under control until the 6-2, 5-4 and then played one really bad game and then he won that set. He played much better then and got pushed also from from a great crowd. Third set was I think no break from either side. And he played a great tie-breaker. But yeah, also I had in the back of my head that he already had five setter in the first round doubles yesterday. So, I knew that probably he cannot really hold that level. So I just tried to stay in the match and that's what I did. And that's what also paid off at the end."

STORYLINE:
The seventh seeded Alexander Zverev admitted on Thursday that Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are "simply better" than all the Next Gen players "because they're winning," and then listed the reasons why Next Gen have not yet won a Grand Slam, as he spoke after beating Belarusian Egor Gerasimov to reach the Australian Open last 32.
"I think is it more difficult for us than 20 years ago? Yes. Maybe because of the social media, of the mobile phones, of the opinions that everybody can spread out on the Internet," said Zverev, talking about the challenges that all Next Gen players face in today's world.
"I think once one of us wins it I think is going be easier for the others (Next Gen). I think so, because we always look at each other as well," he added.
The seventh-seeded Zverev advanced to the third round of the tournament with a 7-6 (5), 6-4, 7-5 win over Egor Gerasimov.
Two-time French Open finalist Dominic Thiem broke local wild-card entry Alex Boult's serve in the third game of the fifth set and also advanced to the third round with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-2 win.
"I had in the back of my head that he already had five setter in the first round doubles yesterday. So, I knew that probably he cannot really hold that level. So I just tried to stay in the match and that's what I did," commented Thiem about his match against Boult.
