'లిథియం అయాన్​ బ్యాటరీ' పరిశోధకులకు 'నోబెల్​'

రసాయనశాస్త్రంలో విశేష సేవలందించిన ముగ్గురికి నోబెల్‌ పురస్కారం వరించింది. జాన్‌ బి గుడెనఫ్‌(యూనివర్సిటీ ఆఫ్​ టెక్సాస్​), ఎం స్టాన్లీ విట్టింగమ్‌(స్టేట్​ యూనివర్సిటీ ఆఫ్​ న్యూయార్క్​), అకిరా యోషినో(జపాన్​ మీజో యూనివర్సిటీ)కు ఈ పురస్కారాన్ని సంయుక్తంగా అందజేయనున్నట్లు నోబెల్ కమిటీ ప్రకటించింది. 'లిథియం-అయాన్‌ బ్యాటరీ' అభివృద్ధికై ఈ ముగ్గురు చేసిన విశేష పరిశోధనలకు ప్రఖ్యాత పురస్కారం లభించింది. 

గత రెండు రోజుల్లో 2019 ఏడాదికిగానూ వైద్య, భౌతికశాస్త్రాల్లో నోబెల్‌ విజేతలను ప్రకటించిన రాయల్‌ స్వీడిష్‌ అకాడమీ కమిటీ.. తాజాగా రసాయన శాస్త్రంలో గ్రహీతల పేర్లను వెల్లడించింది. జాన్‌ గుడెనఫ్‌ 97 ఏళ్ల వయసులో ఈ గౌరవాన్ని పొందడం విశేషం.

నోబెల్​ పురస్కారంగా 9 లక్షల 18 వేల డాలర్ల నగదు, పసిడి పతకం, ఒక ధ్రువపత్రం ఇవ్వనున్నారు. డైనమైట్​ను కనుగొన్న 'నోబెల్'.. వర్ధంతి సందర్భంగా డిసెంబర్​ 10న అవార్డుల ప్రదానోత్సవం జరగనుంది. భౌతికశాస్త్రం, రసాయనశాస్త్రం, వైద్య, సాహిత్య రంగాల బహుమతులను స్టాక్​హోమ్​​లో, నోబెల్ శాంతి బహుమతిని ఓస్లోలో ప్రదానం చేయనున్నారు.

"The game is based on groups of people coming in; you can do it on your own. We've gone through a few different types of tech but this is the one we have settled on because it's very realistic but has the gamification of… that we're looking for, so it has got a really competitive element to it. The idea is that guests come in you put your names into the touchscreen and it sets up teams and then it spits them out as it sees fit. And then you guys will choose the kind of discipline that you want to do, to get involved in. So you can do birds different types of birds, so you've got grouse, ducks, pheasants and you can do deer or wild boar as well."

So the whole idea of Smoky Barrels was to try and introduce the reality that you know when you're eating meat, an animal is killed. In the heart of London a virtual hunting range takes players out into the Scottish hills as they hunt for game and wild boar.
The Smoky Barrels Virtual Hunting and Whisky Bar runs alongside the Mac & Wild restaurant that prides itself on making no apologies for where its meat comes from.
STORYLINE:
More than 300 miles from the Scottish border in the UK's capital city dwellers are being transported to prime hunting locations in the Highlands.
Smoky Barrels is London's first virtual hunting range. Projected onto a large screen, the simulation game has three disciplines: birds, wild boar and deer.
There are four different types of game birds; they include partridge, duck, grouse and pheasant.
"The game is based on groups of people coming in; you can do on your own. We've gone through a few different types of tech but this is the one we have settled on because it's very realistic but has the gamification of… that we're looking for, so it has got a really competitive element to it," says Mac & Wild's and Smoky Barrels co-founder, Andy Waugh,
"The idea is that guests come in you put your names into the touchscreen and it sets up teams and then it spits them out as it sees fit. And then you guys will choose the kind of discipline that you want to do, to get involved in. So you can do birds different types of birds, so you've got grouse, ducks, pheasants and you can do deer or wild boar as well."
The technology was created by a Swedish independent game and simulation developer, SimWay.
There are five components to make the simulation game work - a tracking camera, video projector and screen, monitor and shotgun replicas.
Once players have calibrated their shotgun they are ready to fire.
"I have loved my experience fighting the virtual hunting game. It's been it's been fantastic. Very addictive because I now want to get as many points as possible. And it's becoming very competitive with my team-mates," says customer Michael Helvert.
Players are encouraged to dress up in traditional hunting attire with a selection of waxed gilets and tweed deerstalker hats.
Upstairs the restaurant serves a range of game including wild venison; Waugh explains the idea behind Smoky Barrels is to try to connect people to what they are eating and to change the customer's attitude towards eating meat.

Hunting and shooting in the UK is a multi-million-pound industry - both game shooting and deer stalking are field sports in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
According to the latest figures by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), at least 600,000 people a year participate in shooting, including live quarry, clay pigeons or target shooting in the UK.
Shooting supports the equivalent of 74,000 full-time jobs and is worth £2 billion to the UK economy (GVA), reports the BASC.
Before laws were introduced, people did not have to ask permission to kill animals or record their death.
The Hunting Act, which bans the hunting of wild mammals with dogs in England and Wales, was introduced in 2004.
In England and Wales, it is unlawful to shoot game birds while they are not in flight as this is considered unsporting.
Deer stalking is both a recreational activity and considered necessary for the protection of the environment as they have no predators and breed quickly.
But vegan, meat-free and plant based diets have become increasingly popular in the UK over the last few years.
Animal Aid is a vegan, animal rights organisation which was established in 1977. It campaigns across a broad range of issues that affect animals including shooting.
"We know that the messaging that the game is sending out is that it's okay to shoot animals and that it's a bit of harmless fun. People are still taking that message when they go home. And I would be very concerned that people would play that game and then be encouraged to go and try shooting real animals and think of them as being nothing more than inanimate objects," says Campaign Manager, Fiona Pereira.
According to a poll conducted by YouGov on behalf of Animal Aid and the League Against Cruel Sports, 69% think shooting birds for sport should be illegal compared to 18% that agree it should be legal.
"The shooting industry is desperate to encourage more people to take up this activity and we know...the shooting industry is desperate for more people to take up this activity and certainly games like this may be one of the things that they're using to try and encourage people to do that," says Pereira,
Smoky Barrels opened on August 16th, 2019 and is located inside Mac & Wild restaurant, London.
