2022 ఆగస్టు 15 నాటికి మానవ సహిత గగన్యాన్ ప్రయోగాన్ని విజయవంతం చేయాలని పట్టుదలగా ఉంది ఇస్రో. ఇందుకోసం ముందుగా రెండు మానవ రహిత గగన్యాన్ ప్రయోగాలు చేపట్టనుంది. ఈ ఏడాది చివర్లో చేపట్టే మొదటి ప్రయోగంలో భాగంగా అంతరిక్షంలోకి పంపేందుకు హాఫ్ హ్యూమనాయిడ్ రోబో 'వ్యోమ మిత్ర' ను రూపొందించింది. అలాగే మానవ సహిత ప్రయోగం కోసం నలుగురు వ్యోమగాములను ఎంపిక చేసినట్లు ఇస్రో ఛైర్మన్ స్పష్టం చేశారు.

అంతరిక్షంలోకి వెళ్లేందుకు రెడీ అవుతున్న 'లేడీ రోబో' పూర్తి స్వదేశీ పరిజ్ఞానంతో చేపట్టనున్న గగన్యాన్ ప్రయోగాన్ని విజయవంతం చేసేందుకు భారత అంతరిక్ష పరిశోధన సంస్థ-ఇస్రో ముమ్మర ఏర్పాట్లు చేస్తోంది. 2022 ఆగస్టు 15 నాటికి మానవులను అంతరిక్షంలోకి తీసుకెళ్లాలన్న లక్ష్యంతో ముందడుగు వేస్తోంది. ఇందుకోసం ఈ ఏడాది చివర్లో మొదటి మానవ రహిత గగన్యాన్ ప్రయోగం చేపట్టనుంది. ఈ పరీక్షలో భాగంగా అంతరిక్షంలోకి పంపేందుకు.. అచ్చం మనిషిలాగే ప్రవర్తించే హాఫ్ హ్యూమనాయిడ్ రోబో 'వ్యోమ మిత్ర'ను రూపొందించింది. వ్యోమమిత్రను పరీక్షించిన ఆరునెలల అనంతరం మరోమారు మానవ రహిత గగన్యాన్ ప్రయోగం చేపట్టనుంది.
ఆ తర్వాత 2022లో వ్యోమగాములను అంతరిక్షంలోకి పంపనుంది. ఈ ప్రయోగం కోసం ఇప్పటికే నలుగురు వ్యోమగాములను ఎంపిక చేసినట్లు ఇస్రో ఛైర్మన్ కె శివన్‌ తెలిపారు. వీరికి శిక్షణ కూడా ఇస్తున్నట్లు స్పష్టం చేశారు. భారత వ్యోమగామి రాకేశ్ శర్మ రష్యా సాయంతో 1984లో తొలిసారి అంతరిక్షం చేరగా ప్రస్తుతం స్వదేశీ పరిజ్ఞానంతోనే భారత వ్యోమగాములు రోదసిలోకి వెళ్లనున్నట్లు శివన్‌ తెలిపారు.
" ముందుగా అనుకున్న తేదీ ప్రకారమే గగన్యాన్ ప్రయోగం చేపడతాం. ఇందుకోసం నలుగురు వ్యోమగాములు కూడా ఎంపికయ్యారు. శిక్షణ నిమిత్తం ఈనెలాఖరుకల్లా వారందరూ రష్యాకు వెళ్తారు. అంతరిక్ష శిక్షణ మాత్రమే కాకుండా పర్యావరణ వ్యవస్థ, జీవశాస్త్రం వంటి అంశాల్లోనూ వ్యోమగాములకు శిక్షణ ఇవ్వనున్నాం. కేవలం రష్యా, నాసా నుంచి మాత్రమే కాకుండా ఇతర సంస్థల నుంచి కూడా అవసరమైన శిక్షణ ఇప్పిస్తున్నాం. ఎక్కడైనా నేర్చుకోవాల్సిన అంశాలు ఉంటే శిక్షణా సంస్థల సహకారంతో కలిసి వారికి శిక్షణ ఇస్తున్నాం.

"If you discriminate on the grounds of religion, that itself is prohibited in the constitution. They (the government) will be at pains to explain that this is not on the basis of religion. This is on the basis of persecuted minorities, right? That the persons coming in, the non-Muslims coming in, are persecuted in Muslim countries on the basis of religion or whatever. So because they are persecuted, that's why we're taking them in. But that argument is also full of flaws in the sense that there are Muslims in Muslim countries who are persecuted. So they are a persecuted class and you should be taking them in as well."

STORYLINE:
India's top court on Wednesday began hearing petitions seeking the revocation of amendments to a new citizenship law after nationwide protests and a security crackdown that led to over 20 deaths.
The Supreme Court would not grant a stay before hearing from the government, which has argued the law is a humanitarian gesture allowing citizenship for people fleeing religious persecution in Muslim-majority Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
The law that Parliament approved in December sparked vehement opposition.
Protesters, political opponents and constitutional lawyers have said it is discriminatory because it excludes Muslims.
The nationwide protests appear to be the fiercest public criticism Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has faced.
Modi's political party has downplayed the protests as orchestrated by opponents. His powerful Home Minister Amit Shah said the government will not retreat on the law.
"If you discriminate on the grounds of religion, that itself is prohibited in the Constitution," said Colin Gonsalves, a senior advocate at the Supreme Court of India and founder of the Human Rights Law Network, which filed two of the petitions.
But Modi's Hindu nationalist-led government and proponents of the changes say Muslim immigrants still could attain citizenship through the existing naturalization process.
Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party-led government and its legal experts are banking on exceptions in the constitution that allow a law to make a reasonable classification if it is not arbitrary and directly relates to the law's objective.
"Because it is a well-drafted legislation, with a specific purpose, for a specific group of people, there is really no problem on it passing the muster," said Aishwarya Bhati, a senior advocate at the Supreme Court who supports the new law.
Opponents believe the government will argue the law's classification is not based on an immigrant's religion, but on religious persecution in the three countries.
Gonsalves, however, said it is unlikely judges will strike down or alter the law, echoing the fears of many Indians who are questioning the court's independence.
Critics also say that the new citizenship law discriminates because it lowers the minimum residence requirement to five years for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian migrants, while keeping it at 11 years for Muslims and other religious groups.
India has a vast, undocumented immigrant population among its 1.3 billion people, with many living in the country for generations.
