VENICE FILM FESTIVAL HONORS JULIE ANDREWS WITH LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Julie Andrews will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 76th Venice International Film Festival later this year.
The 83-year-old English actress, who has appeared in classics including "Mary Poppins" and "The Sound of Music," was named Friday (8 MARCH 2019) as the recipient of this year's honor.
In a statement, Andrews said that she was "honored to have been selected as this year's recipient of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement," adding that she was excited to be "in that beautiful city in September for this very special occasion."
Festival director Alberto Barbera said the festival was honoring Andrews in "recognition of an extraordinary career which has admirably parsed popular success with artistic ambition, without ever bowing to facile compromises."
The 76th Venice International Film Festival runs 28 August through 7 September.
