The Polish government has joined forces with the United States to co-host an international conference on the Middle East, which starts on Wednesday, with the hope to strengthen its ties with Washington as it seeks greater protection from Russia.
But other longstanding relationships are being tested.
The United States and Poland are sponsoring the conference in Warsaw, which they say is aimed at promoting peace and security in the region, but appears to be mainly focused on isolating Iran.
Iran has denounced the conference as an American anti-Iran "circus."
Russia has also said it will not attend, and the European Union's foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, is also skipping the event.
Iran's government views the conference as a hostile act and has warned that there will be consequences for Poland.
Some political observers also fear the Polish government is risking greater isolation in Europe by aligning itself with Washington on an issue where the key European powers strongly oppose U.S. President Donald Trump's policies.
"The risk is that indeed Poland puts all its eggs into one American, or really Trump's basket, without caring enough about its relationship with its European partners," said Piotr Buras, the director of the Warsaw office of the European Council on Foreign Relations.
"I have the feeling that the Trump administration doesn't care much about Europe's unity, or even more perhaps a treaty, and tries to exploit some divisions within Europe or even deepen them," he added.
The hosts of the meeting are U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz.
Other high-ranking attendees are U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The event comes as Poland is lobbying the United States for a U.S. base on its territory.
