"As I already said, we are working on that issue. It's the number one issue is to make sure that there is no hard border. It's a matter of peace agreement and no one can jeopardise this situation by erecting hard border. This is supposed to be clear. And the second thing is that we have to make sure that products entering to the EU territory are safe and they comply with our quality standards and safety standards. So, Irish authorities are in very close cooperation with European commission authorities to find a practical ways to check the compliance. And as I said, in the least possible disruptive manner and when possible as much away from the border as it's practically useful."

STORYLINE:
Just days before Britain is due to leave the European Union, senior officials of the European Commission said on Thursday that a no-deal Brexit would be "extremely costly and disruptive".
The Vice President of the European Commission Jyrki Katainen reiterated that "a hard Brexit is increasingly possible."
Asked whether border posts would be built between the Republic of Ireland and the UK's Northern Ireland in the case of a no-deal scenario, Katainen said "we have to make sure that products entering to the EU territory are safe and they comply with our quality standards."
Checks would be done, he said, "in the least possible disruptive manner and, when possible, as much away from the border as is practically useful."
Meanwhile, the European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc added that the Commission "has carried out extensive preparations" for a no-deal scenario.
