9. SOUNDBITE (English) Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary-General:
"Today is an historic day for your country and a proud day for us all. NATO ambassadors have just signed an accession protocol for the future republic of North Macedonia. I want to congratulate both Skopje and Athens for showing commitment and courage in reaching an agreement on the name issue."

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Nikola Dimitrov, Macedonia Foreign Minister:
"I would like to acknowledge and praise the leadership of (Macedonian) Prime Minister Zaev, of (Greek) Prime Minister Tsipras. It was easier not to do this. So, by no means this historic reconciliation was inevitable. It was not even likely. It was easier to sit in the trenches of history. It was even easier to score political points by maintaining the dispute. But what they dared to do was invest political capital for the benefit of the two peoples of the two nations and the whole region, and NATO as a family, as an alliance."

14. SOUNDBITE (English) Nikola Dimitrov, Macedonia Foreign Minister:
"On whether we foresee obstacles, I will only quote Zoran, our prime minister, who says, the bigger the obstacles, the more magnificent the success. Where we started, it looked impossible. Now that it is done, of course it looks possible. And I have to say that personally, I would like to share a fundamental sense of accomplishment of doing something right and I think we will convince even the opponents of this reconciliation to come to our side once they see the results. I don't think there is a more noble, more fundamental job for diplomacy but in making friends and allies between neighbouring countries."

16. SOUNDBITE (English) Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary-General
"So, for me, it is perfectly natural that UK is hosting the leaders meeting at the end of the next year and not least because London was the first seat for the NATO headquarters back in 1949 when the alliance was established, and the first secretary general of the alliance was actually a Brit. So, Britain, the United Kingdom is a founding member of NATO and we started in London with our first headquarters. So, we are extremely grateful to the government of the United Kingdom, to Prime Minister (Theresa) May for the offer to host the next leaders meeting and that will be part of the way we mark the 70th anniversary of our alliance."

STORYLINE:
Macedonia on Wednesday took a big step toward becoming the 30th member of NATO, as the alliance chief and the Macedonian foreign minister led an "accession protocol" signing ceremony at NATO's Brussels headquarters.
Visibly moved by the moment, Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov thanked the Macedonian and Greek prime ministers for overcoming the name dispute.
In turn, Jens Stoltenberg praised their "commitment and courage" in reaching an agreement on the name issue.
The move marked the end of a long dispute with Greece over the Balkan country's name, and came less than two decades after NATO deployed troops to the country as it teetered on the brink of civil war.
The signing ceremony marked the start of the ratification process.
Montenegro, the last country to join NATO, had to wait about a year for all members to formally endorse its accession protocol.
Greece is set to become the first to do so this week.
Macedonia will then start calling itself North Macedonia and will join under that name, possibly late this year or in early 2020.
NATO marks its 70th anniversary with a summit in London in December.
The meeting would provide a perfect occasion to formally welcome North Macedonia should the ratification process be completed.
Greece blocked Macedonia's NATO membership for a decade over the name dispute.
Athens saw the former Yugoslav republic's name as a threat to its own administrative region of Macedonia.
