President Trump has walked away in every instance. He's walked away from the global climate accords. He is unwilling to take global climate change as a serious risk to humanity that it actually is. And I have a plan to actually take our global climate change, not only with the Green New Deal, which I will describe in a bit, but also putting a price on carbon so we can use market forces to increase innovation, entrepreneurism and create jobs here in Michigan and all across the country."

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, a Democratic presidential candidate stopped in the vote-rich Detroit area for multiple events on Monday, a year before the state's primary.
Gillibrand campaigned at an event hosted by Fems for Dems inside a Clawson furniture and women's clothing store, talking up policy priorities such as the Green New Deal and Medicare for All.
In attendance was Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who has encouraged presidential candidates to visit the state and said Gillibrand was "the first to call."
Gillibrand used the event to blast President Donald Trump's foreign policy, saying Trump is unwilling to lead and unwilling to stand up to Russia and Saudi Arabia.
