2. SOUNDBITE (English) Itzhak Perlman/Violinist, on his MasterClass:
"If you talk to a person who is let's say 50-years-old, and never touched the instrument, you might as well talk to somebody who is five years old who never touched the instrument because we are starting from the beginning."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Itzhak Perlman/Violinist, on younger people learning quicker:
"But now how fast do you learn? You know, if I say to you, 'Hold the bow this way, get the grip that way, do this and that.' If you're five or six, you catch it fast. If you're 50 or 60, it's slower and it's more of a challenge, so, that's why I'm saying that in a class like this, some of the things that we talk about should be applied to kids who are young so that they learn the right way of doing it at the young age. Because once you learn something at the young age, you don't forget it. Because it stays there with you and it's and it's faster."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Itzhak Perlman/Violinist, on learning how to buy a violin:
"These days, the price is just outrageous. So, what do kids do, you know, today, when you're an 18-year old, and you are - you're good, you have a very good level of playing, and you're looking for a fine instrument. What do you do? So, we talk about that. What do you do about being nervous? We talk about that. You know, we talk about - and you would hope that it would reach various levels of people who are interested in the instrument, or interested in music or interested in what goes on in the classroom."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Itzhak Perlman/Violinist, on terminology of the instrument:
"Everybody that plays the violin is a fiddle player. Everybody, in the classical music field, you know, when they go to let's say a violin shop to look at a very nice violin, they would say, 'Oh, really terrific looking fiddle,' because that's what it is. You know it's just a matter of semantics."

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Itzhak Perlman/Violinist, on being a pioneer:
"I don't know if I broke ground. I know - I hope that whatever I had to say was, was something that was meaningful to other people, you know. I mean that I did justice to the pieces that I played and that I convinced the audience that that's what I did. So, that's all. All I can do is be myself and do the best that I can."

VIOLIN VIRTUOSO ITZHAK PERLMAN BRINGS HIS TEACHING SKILLS TO MASTERCLASS.COM
Considered one of the world's leading violin players, Itzhak Perlman has performed classical music lovers around the globe. So, if you wanted a lesson, you would have to go to Juilliard.
But now, just about anyone can learn from the 15-time Grammy Award winner as Perlman brings his skills to MasterClass.com for some online lessons.
The 19-lesson online instruction site offers advice on everything from holding the bow to picking the right instrument, that is on top of learning technique.
And the virtuoso says it's for all ages.
"If you talk to a person who is let's say 50 years old, and never touched the instrument, you might as well talk to somebody who is five years old who never touched the instrument because they are starting from the beginning," Perlman said.
But Perlman feels younger people learn faster.
"How fast do you learn? You know, if I say to you hold the bow this way, get the grip that way, do this and that, if you're five or six, you catch it fast. If you're 50 or 60, it's slower and it's more of a challenge. So, that's why I'm saying that in a class like this, some of the things that we talk about should be applied to kids who are young so that they learn the right way of doing it at the young age.
Because once you learn something at the young age, you don't forget it. Because it stays there with you and it's and it's faster it's faster," he said.
Perlman has performed for world leaders and played some of the biggest names in music. But he's no quite sure of the impact he's made.
"I don't know if I broke ground. I know - I hope that whatever I had to say was, was something that was meaningful to other people, you know. I mean that that I did justice to the pieces that I played and that I convinced the audience that that's what I did. So, that's all, you know. All I can do is be myself and do the best that I can," Perlman said.
Perlman joins a number of successful people who teach masterclasses online. Author David Baldacci has a MasterClass teaching thriller and mystery writing. Magicians Penn and Teller teach magic and Aaron Sorkin has a class in screenwriting.
Classes cost $90 (USD) for a single class or you can pay $15 a month for unlimited class action.
