So 20 years ago the… Julie, Patsy's daughter Julie, and Dick... and Charlie Dick came out and gave me a plaque that had a necklace that had belonged to Patsy Cline and gave it to me that night. And there's a letter from Julie about that. And so I brought it tonight. It's framed but it's … I'm going to break it out of the glass tonight and wear it because, you know, in Porter's comment he mentioned Patsy Cline. I mean, when I was a young girl growing up in Georgia, we had an album that had, I think my parents bought it a filling station is what we used to call them, but a gas station, and it had like 25 artists on it and there were two women on that record, one was Patsy and one was Kitty Wells. And Patsy was 'I Fall To Pieces.' And so she was one of the probably first female artists, those two girls, that I remember ever hearing. It's hard to wear this way, so you know. COUNTRY STAR TRISHA YEARWOOD CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY AS OPRY MEMBER
Country star Trisha Yearwood broke out a piece of jewelry previously owned by country music royalty to celebrate her 20th anniversary as a Grand Ole Opry member.
Yearwood was gifted a necklace belonging to country icon Patsy Cline when she was inducted to the Opry and it's sat under glass for two decades.
Yearwood wore the necklace as she celebrated the anniversary with her husband Garth Brooks, Ricky Skaggs and Emmylou Harris, Tuesday (12 MARCH 2019). She was inducted in 1999 by musician Porter Wagoner, who compared Yearwood's singing to Cline's.
"I'm going to break it out of the glass tonight and wear it," Yearwood told reporters backstage. "In Porter's comment he mentioned Patsy Cline. I mean, when I was a young girl growing up in Georgia, we had an album that had, I think my parents bought it a filling station is what we used to call them, but a gas station, and it had like 25 artists on it and there were two women on that record, one was Patsy and one was Kitty Wells. Yearwood's first country chart-topping hit was 1991's "She's In Love With The Boy," which Wagoner always insisted she sing when she was at the Opry.
