सुपरस्टार रजनीकांत यांची 51 व्या दादासाहेब फाळके पुरस्कारासाठी निवड करण्यात आली होती. केंद्राकडून दिला जाणारा हा प्रतिष्ठीत पुरस्कार रजनीकांत यांना सोमवारी प्रदान करण्यात आला. प्रतिष्ठित दादासाहेब फाळके पुरस्कार सिनेसृष्टीतील उत्कृष्ट कामगिरीसाठी दिला जाणारा चित्रपटातील सर्वोच्च सन्मान आहे आणि तो सरकारकडून दिला जातो.
दादासाहेब पुरस्कार सोहळ्यासाठी रजनीकांत रविवारी दिल्लीत दाखल झाले होते. त्यांनी प्रसिध्द केलेल्या निवेदनात म्हटले होते की, "उद्या माझ्यासाठी खास महत्त्वाचा प्रसंग आहे. कारण मला लोकांच्या प्रेमामुळे आणि पाठिंब्यामुळे, भारत सकरकारकडून मला दादासाहेब फाळके पुरस्कार बहाल करण्यात येत आहे "

सोमवारी सुपरस्टार रजनीकांत यांना 2020 साठीचा दादासाहेब फाळके पुरस्कार प्रदान करण्यात आला आहे. उपराष्ट्रपती व्यकय्या नायडू यांच्या हस्ते हा पुरस्कार देण्यात आला. यावेळी रजनीकांतची मुलगी ऐश्वर्या, जावई धनुष व पत्नी लता इतर परिवारातील सदस्य हजर होते.
2018 चा पुरस्कार मेगास्टार अमिताभ बच्चन यांना मिळाला होता. अमिताभ आणि रजनीकांत यांनी 1991 च्या अॅक्शन-ड्रामा 'हम' मध्ये स्क्रीन स्पेस शेअर केली होत
रजनीकांत याला यापूर्वी भारतीय प्रजासत्ताकाचा दुसरा-सर्वोच्च नागरी पुरस्कार पद्मविभूषण देखील मिळाला आहे. त्याने बॉलीवूड तसेच दक्षिण भारतीय चित्रपटांमध्ये काम केले आहे आणि त्याच्या चाहत्यांची संख्या खूप मोठी आहे.
रजनीकांतने 1975 मध्ये के बालचंदरच्या 'अपूर्व रागांगल' चित्रपटामधून सिनेसृष्टीत पदार्पण केले होते आणि तमिळ चित्रपट उद्योगात 45 वर्षांहून अधिक वर्षे पूर्ण केली आहेत.

ए.आर. मुरुगदास यांच्या 'दरबार'मध्ये अखेरचा दिसलेला अभिनेता रजनीकांत लवकरच त्याच्या बहुप्रतिक्षित 'अन्नात्थे' या चित्रपटात मुख्य भूमिकेत दिसणार आहे.
दक्षिणात्य दिग्दर्शक शिव दिग्दर्शित, 'अन्नात्थे' मध्ये नयनतारा, किर्ती सुरेश, खुशबू आणि प्रकाश राज यांच्याही भूमिका आहेत.
4 नोव्हेंबरला प्रदर्शित होणारा 'अन्नात्थे' हा चित्रपट कोरोनाव्हायरसच्या साथीमुळे लांबणीवर पडला होता. अखेर याच्या प्रदर्शनाचा मार्ग मोकळा झाला आहे.
