नई दिल्ली: पूरे क्रिकेट जगत ने वेस्टइंडीज के महान बल्लेबाज एवरटन वीक्स के निधन पर शोक व्यक्त किया है. वीक्स का बुधवार को बारबाडोस में 95 साल की उम्र में निधन हो गया.
भारत के महान बल्लेबाज सचिन तेंदुलकर ने ट्वीट करते हुए लिखा,"सर एवरटन वीक्स नहीं रहे! बाकी के दो महान डब्ल्यू के साथ उनकी बल्लेबाजी की कई कहानियां सुनी थीं. आपकी याद आएगी सर. भगवान आपकी आत्मा को शांति दे."

इंग्लैंड के पूर्व कप्तान माइकल एथरटन ने ट्वीट में लिखा,"सर एवरटन के निधन की खबर सुनकर दुखी हूं. एक विनम्र इंसान जो अपनी महानता को बहुत सहजता से लेता था."
भारतीय टीम के पूर्व बल्लेबाज वसीम जाफर ने लिखा,"सर एवरटन वीक्स के परिवार और दोस्तों के साथ मेरी संवेदनाएं. वो इकलौते ऐसे बल्लेबाज हैं जिन्होंने लगातार पांच शतक लगाए थे. वो साथ ही वेस्टइंडीज के महान तीन डब्ल्यू का हिस्सा थे जिसमें सर फ्रैंक वॉरेल और सर क्लाइव वालकॉट शामिल हैं."
उन्होंने 22 साल की उम्र में 1948 में जॉर्ज हैडली की कप्तानी में इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ टेस्ट पदार्पण किया था और पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ अपना आखिरी मैच खेला था.
अपने करियर में उन्होंने 48 टेस्ट मैच खेले थे और 4455 रन बनाए थे. इस दौरान उनका औसत 58.61 रहा था. इसमें लगातार पांच शतकों का विश्व रिकॉर्ड भी शामिल है. उन्होंने इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ जमैका में 141 और फिर इसके बाद भारत में 128, 194, 162 और 101 रन बनाए थे. इसके तुरंत बाद की पारी में उन्होंने 90 रन बनाए थे.
