I mean they believe such unilateral exertion of extreme pressure will force China to back down, to compromise. However, China has its principles and will never sign an unequal agreement. "According to data released by the WTO, in the past few years, among cases of violation of WTO rules, two thirds were done by the U.S. And it has a considerable amount of bad records of breaking other international rules. In the past, the U.S. wanted 'America first' and now it wants 'America only'. Therefore, the U.S. finds international rules are binding so it wants to bypass them. When the U.S. begins to do this, all its trading partners, from Europe or North America, will be reconsidering their trade relations with the U.S. This will definitely do a great harm to the U.S. soft power."

Now the international community is quite concerned that the U.S. will drag the whole world into to a swamp of recession, turbulence and risk with its protectionism and retrogression."

The U.S. defiance of international rules in adopting the harsh trade tariff policy is doomed to fail, as trade partners could reconsider trade relations with the U.S. rather than yield to extreme pressure, said Chinese experts amid the escalating China-U.S. trade tensions.
In separate interviews with China Central Television, the experts said the newly added tariffs on Chinese goods are reflective of the U.S. administration's defiance of international trade rules and disrespect of the consensus achieved with China and in past 40 years, and that trade disputes should be settled through negotiations on an equal footing.
"I think the U.S. is ignoring the important consensus it has reached with China by imposing high tariffs. Actually I think they have misjudged the situation. I mean they believe such unilateral exertion of extreme pressure will force China to back down, to compromise. However, China has its principles and will never sign an unequal agreement. China does not yield to pressure and not compromise with no principles," said Ruan Zongze, executive vice president of China Institute of International Studies.
The U.S. is taking its national security as an excuse to ban Chinese enterprises and interrupt normal business exchanges between the two countries. Such a move is also harming its own enterprises' interests, as today's world is much integrated than it was in terms of economic cooperation, according to experts.
"Americans thought that China posed a threat to the U.S. monopoly and hegemony in the high tech area. Under such circumstances, the U.S. wants to block normal business and industrial exchanges by provoking a trade war. This goes against international rules and will not be supported by the rest of the world," said Li Gang, director of academic committee under the Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation under the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
The experts said the U.S. has never had a good record of abiding by international trade rules. It always gives its domestic laws a higher status than international rules.
This will definitely do a great harm to the U.S. soft power," said Liu Jianxing, deputy director of the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) lowered its 2019 global growth forecast from 3.5 percent to 3.3 percent in a report issued in April, and warned that rising trade tensions beyond forecast remain a key source of risk to the economic outlook.
"This expectation of the growth rate is the lowest since the 2008 international financial crisis. Most countries want to maintain the free trade system based on rules, but the U.S. wants to overthrow it with protectionism, with de-globalization, with 'America first'. Now the international community is quite concerned that the U.S. will drag the whole world into to a swamp of recession, turbulence and risk with its protectionism and retrogression," said Zhang Yansheng, member of the academic committee under the National Development and Reform Commission.
