I have been to the northeast Al Hol camp to see and to watch the situation and how we can best react to the situation."

''Some of the challenges are for the humanitarian actors at the present moment in Syria then going to Al Hol camp because you have thousands of people in need of an emergency humanitarian operation, as you have seen. They come into thousands camp which has conceived for 5000 people. We are at 74,000 people and more to come. This morning when we left Hassakeh, there was indication that more trucks are bringing women and children again into Al Hol camp, so this is an emergency operation."

"My conversations in Damascus, the focus was clearly to see how we can further adapt and grow our response, our humanitarian response in Syria, to respond to those short and long-term needs of the Syrian population. You all know where the emergency spots are. We have seen in Idlib, tens of thousands of people have been displaced recently, fighting has taken in other areas of Syria. "

STORYLINE:
The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said Friday that he held two days of talks with Syrian officials while on a visit to the Syrian capital Damascus.
Peter Maurer told reporters in Beirut that his talks focused on the emergency humanitarian aid that is gravely needed as more and more people arrive at the northeastern Syrian Al Hol settlement.
Maurer said more than 74,000 people are trying to reach the camp.

The vast majority of people in Al Hol camp came from the last area controlled by the Islamic State group near the Iraqi border as US-backed fighters slowly advanced.
The ICRC said about 90 percent of those arriving are women and children, many of whom have been through extremely traumatic experiences.
Dozens of children have died because of the cold and conditions in Al Hol in the last weeks, the ICRC said.
