STORYLINE:
Moscow City Court dismissed the appeal against extending the arrests of the star footballers Pavel Mamaev and Alexander Kokorin charged with disorderly conduct.
The footballers will be remanded in custody until 8 April while their lawyers are preparing to apply to the European Court of Human Rights.
Russia national soccer team players Mamaev and Kokorin were detained in October after being involved in brawls in Moscow.
Krasnodar's Mamaev and Zenit St. Petersburg's Kokorin are two of Russia's most recognised players, though neither played at last year's World Cup.
Mamaev made 15 appearances for Russia from 2010-16, when he was dropped amid public anger at video footage showing him and Kokorin partying at a Monaco nightclub shortly after the team was eliminated from the European Championship.
