A gathering of readers of Chinese President Xi Jinping's book "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" was held in Rome on Wednesday.
The event was held one day prior to Xi's first foreign tour this year, in which he will pay state visits to Italy, Monaco and France from March 21 to 26.
At the gathering, readers spoke highly of the book, saying that it offers access to a real China. Thoughts and ideas on national and global governance embodied in the book are of great practical value.
They voiced their expectations for Xi's visit.
A Chinese official read Xi's message in response to the letter from President Paolo M. Reale and eight students of Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II, an Italian boarding school.
In the letter, Xi said that he appreciates the students' desire to promote dialogue and cultural exchanges between young people of the two countries.
He also encourages Italian students to be cultural ambassadors between the two nations.
Some Italian attendees at the gathering said Xi's letter is inspiring and important in encouraging Italian youths dedicate themselves to promoting China-Italy friendship.
