Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed US Senator Lindsey Graham (Republican, South Carolina) to his residence in Jerusalem early on Monday.
The US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, was also present.
Graham is a close ally of US President Donald Trump and has backed Israel's claim over the occupied Golan Heights.
Israel took control of the territory in the 1967 Mideast war and annexed it in 1981 – a move that is not internationally recognised.
