STORYLINE:
The Royal Australian Navy seized more than 2.1 tonnes of hashish and 345 kilograms (760 pounds) of heroin in two boarding operations in the Arabian Sea earlier this week.
According to the navy, the street value of the drugs seized was 105 million Australian dollars (approx. 76 million US dollars) and 103.5 million Australian dollars (approx. 75.5 million US dollars) respectively.
During its previous operations in the Arabian Sea, the frigate HMAS Ballarat seized 931 kilograms (2052 pounds) of heroin in December of 2018 and 3.1 tonnes of hashish in early January 2019.
The naval vessel has been deployed under Operation Manitou, the current name for the Australian government's contribution to support international efforts to promote maritime security in the Middle East region.
