STORYLINE:
A Myanmar police officer who was sentenced to jail for violating the Police Disciplinary Act was released from prison early on Friday morning.
Moe Yan Naing testified in court as a prosecution witness during last year's trial of the Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo, who were charged with violating the Official Secrets Act.
He testified that he was ordered to help entrap the two journalists.
At the time, he said that his superior had arranged for two policemen to meet the two reporters and give them documents described as "important secret papers" in order to arrest them on charges of possessing state secrets.
After his surprise testimony, he was sentenced to a year in jail for violating the Police Disciplinary Act and his family was forced to vacate their police housing unit.
The two journalists were sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of illegal possession of official documents in September 2018.
An appeal of their conviction was rejected by a high court in January 2019.
