"After many years of adjustment, the contribution of China's domestic market to the economy has been much larger, while the proportion of foreign trade has shrunk. In foreign trade, that with the United States accounts for about 15 percent, so the impact will be relatively small."

"The technology company (Huawei) suppressed by the United States has nothing to do with the huge trade surplus and deficit, Huawei even helps solve the problem of U.S. trade deficit as it imports a large amount of goods from the U.S. annually, isn't it beneficial for the U.S.? Therefore, I think it looks like the hidden intention of the U.S. is to contain China's development. At least the far-right idea of the U.S. is relatively obviously so."

China's contributions to the world's economic development is being increasingly recognized across the world, and the impact of China-U.S. trade friction is controllable for China, according to Chen Deming, former Commerce Minister of China on Friday.
Chen said this at the two-day 25th International Conference on the Future of Asia, which kicked off in Japan's capital Tokyo. At the conference, Chen delivered a speech on economic globalization and development of Asia, China's reform and opening-up and the Belt and Road Initiative; joint cooperation to promote prosperity in Asia and so forth, attracting attention from all sides.
At the conference themed "seeking a new global order - overcoming the chaos", Chen said the theme accords with current international economic situation, adding the views expressed by the participants showed the close attention paid by the international community to the current China-U.S. trade issues.
During an interview with China Central Television (CCTV), Chen said, "They (the participants) basically hold that the United States practiced unilateralism and provoked the 'trade war', and China is the victim. However, some of them are concerned about whether China can hold out with it or not, some Japanese politicians even told me that 'we count on China to hold out against unilateralism'."
On the concern about whether China can withstand the pressure from the U.S., Chen said China is a large country with a large population and in the rising stage of the economic cycle, the impact of China-U.S. economic and trade friction is controllable for China.
"After many years of adjustment, the contribution of China's domestic market to the economy has been much larger, while the proportion of foreign trade has shrunk. In foreign trade, that with the United States accounts for about 15 percent, so the impact will be relatively small," said Chen.
As for the economic and trade frictions, Chen said the core problem is not the problem of surplus or deficit in the trade, but the U.S. reluctance to see China's development and its desire to shift its structural problems to a third party.
At least the far-right idea of the U.S. is relatively obviously so," said Chen.
Over the years, China has unswervingly deepened reform and opening-up and followed multilateral economic and trade rules with concrete actions. In recent years, the Belt and Road cooperation has accelerated the industrialization process of relevant countries and injected strong impetus to economic growth, said the former minister.
