1. SOUNDBITE (English) Eric Talmadge, AP Pyongyang Bureau Chief:
"The on again-off again denuclearisation talks between the United States and North Korea have taken another dramatic turn. U.S. President Donald Trump announced Thursday that his second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un broke down over the North's demands that the United States lift all of its sanctions against their country. Trump announced in a news conference after the talks failed that he could not accept that demand and decided to walk away. He said however that the talks are conducted in a generally constructive and friendly manner, and left the door open for talks to continue in the weeks ahead. He also said that the North Korean leader vowed to maintain his moratorium on missile launches and nuclear tests. Trump boarded Air Force One to return to Washington immediately after the talks failed. Kim was expected to remain in Hanoi until Saturday for meetings with Vietnamese leaders before returning to Pyongyang. Eric Talmadge, The Associated Press. Hanoi, Vietnam."
