"This movie, for me, was something that felt exciting to take on, being that it's a genre that I love, which is thriller and horror. And it was a way to take a story that reminded me of 'Single White Female' or 'Basic Instinct' to 'Fatal Attraction' and subvert the genre by casting, you know, Isabelle Huppert instead of Anthony Hopkins. And instead of the boyfriend character, it's Maika Monroe as my best friend. And that was opportunity, I think, within this genre you get to subvert the tropes that you can so easily fall into. And I really want to take advantage of that. And, you know, of course delved back into horror, which I think people know I really, really appreciate very much.

CHLOE GRACE MORITZ BRINGS HER TORONTO FESTIVAL FAVORITE, TALE OF FATAL ATTRACTION, TO L.A.
Much of the unexpected took place on the set of "The Crying Game" director Neil Jordan's latest, "Greta."
First of the all, the horror film, a homage to the '80s and '90s horror-stalker genre, dug deeper than usual for inspiration.
Instead of opposite-sex relationships turning potentially fatal, as in, say, "Fatal Attraction" or "The Silence of the Lambs," "Greta" goes the same-sex route, which was a hit with audiences in such films as "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" and "Single White Female."
In the case of "Greta," it's fresh-faced Chloe Grace Moretz fooled by the sweet surface of a sexagenarian, played by Isabelle Huppert.
And that's just the start of the film's topsy-turvy take on horror conventions.
"Instead of the boyfriend character, it's Maika Monroe as my best friend," Moretz explained. "And that was opportunity, I think, within this genre you get to subvert the tropes that you can so easily fall into. And I really want to take advantage of that."
For Jordan, structuring "Greta" as a triangle comprised of three women was hugely appealing.
And, it seems for all, working with the legendary Huppert would have sealed this deal no matter what was on the page.
