4 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஒரு முறை விளையாட்டின் உச்சம் என்று அழைக்கப்படும் ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டி நடத்தப்படுகிறது. இதில் கடந்த 2021ஆம் அண்டு ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டி ஜப்பான் தலைநகர் டோக்கியோவில் நடைபெற்றது. தொடர்ந்து அடுத்த ஆண்டு பிரான்ஸ் தலைநகர் பாரீசில் ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டி நடத்த திட்டமிடப்பட்டு உள்ளது.

2024ஆம் ஆண்டு பாரீஸ் ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டிக்கு தேவையான பணிகள் துரிதமாக நடத்தப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டி தொடங்குவதற்கு முன்னதாக அதில் கிரிக்கெட்டை இணைக்கக் கோரி தொடர் கோரிக்கைகள் விடுக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. இதற்கு முன் கடந்த 1900 ஆம் ஆண்டு பாரீசில் நடைபெற்ற ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டியில் கிரிக்கெட் விளையாடப்பட்டது.

இந்நிலையில் 2028ஆம் ஆண்டு அமெரிக்காவின் லாஸ் ஏஞ்செல்ஸ் நகரில் நடைபெற உள்ள ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டியில் கிரிக்கெட் உள்ளிட்ட 5 விளையாட்டுகளுக்கு சர்வதேச ஒலிம்பிக் கமிட்டி ஒப்புதல் அளித்து உள்ளது. அதன்படி கிரிக்கெட், பேஸ்பால், பிலாக் புட்பால், லாக்ரோஸ் மற்றும் ஸ்குவாஷ் ஆகிய 5 விளையாட்டுகளுக்கு சர்வதேச ஒலிம்பிக் கமிட்டி ஒப்புதல் வழங்கி உள்ளதாக தகவல் கூறப்பட்டு உள்ளது.

இது தொடர்பாக சர்வதேச ஒலிம்பிக் கமிட்டியின் தலைவர் தாமஸ் பாக், மும்பையில் செய்தியாளர்களைச் சந்தித்தார். அப்போது அவர் பேசியதாவது, "2028ஆம் ஆண்டு லாஸ் ஏஞ்செல்சில் நடைபெறவுள்ள ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டியை பொறுத்தவரையில், சர்வதேச ஒலிம்பிக் கமிட்டி மூன்று முடிவுகளை எடுக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது.

முதலில், லாஸ் ஏஞ்செல்ஸ் ஏற்பாட்டுக் குழு ஐந்து புதிய விளையாட்டுகளை அறிமுகப்படுத்தி உள்ளது, ஐந்து விளையாட்டுகளில் கிரிக்கெட், பேஸ்பால், பிலாக் புட்பால், லாக்ரோஸ் மற்றும் ஸ்குவாஷ்" என்று தெரிவித்தார். இதையடுத்து அக்டோபர் 14 முதல் 16 ஆகிய தேதிகளில் மும்பையில் நடைபெறும் சர்வதேச ஒலிம்பிக் கமிட்டி கூட்டத்தில் இந்த 5 விளையாட்டுகளளை அனுமதிப்பது குறித்து வாக்கெடுப்பு நடத்தப்படுகிறது.
