In Jammu & Kashmir, three unidentified militants were killed in an encounter that was going on since early evening between security forces and militants in Rajpora-Awantipora area along Tral axis in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The operation concluded.
Security officials said three militant bodies were retrieved as the identity of the slain militants is being ascertained. They said two among slain could be Pakistani nationals.
The latest gunfight occured on the 79th day of ongoing civilian shutdown against Centre’s decision of abrogating Article 370 and bifurcating J&K into two union territories.
Earlier, security sources had said that joint team of security forces launched the operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of militants in Awantipora area. They said as the forces zeroed in on the suspected place, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately triggering gunfight in the area.
This is the 2nd gunfight in Awantipora area within two weeks and 3rd in South Kashmir area after abrogation of Article 370.
With today's killings, the toll of slain militaants has now reached 12, who have been killed in six separate encounters in south, central and north Kashmir areas till now.
Earlier, On October 16, three local militants of Lashkar e Tayyaba (LeT) were killed in Pazalpora Bijbehara encounter in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
On October 8, two local LeT militants were killed in an encounter in Kawani Brabindina area of Awantipora area in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. A civilian had also been injured near the gunfight site.
Pertinently, two suspected Pakistani militants were killed in Central Kashmir’s Trumkhal Gangbal Naranag area of Ganderbal district, connecting an axis along LoC in Gurez sector of north Kashmir’s Bandipora. The search and sanitization operation had been carried out from Sep 28 to Oct 15 that concluded during 15 days in the area. Significantly, one Kashmiri family from Sopore north Kashmir claimed that one among slain militants is their son while demanding DNA sampling. Police is working on the family’s claim as the family members raised voice while demanding handing over of militant body, recently in Srinagar Press Enclave.
Two local militants had also been earlier killed in two separate encounters in Baramulla (August 21) and Sopore (September 11) areas in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Conclusion:
