Secondly, as a strong partner, it wants to have a new FTA (Free Trade Agreement) with the UK as soon as possible after leaving the EU. So those are all very welcome initiatives, and ones that we want to continue to develop."

Amid the many uncertainties brought by Brexit, the process is unlikely to have any negative ripple effect on China in terms of economic cooperation, according to British and Irish officials.
While the back and forth of Brexit has alarmed countries outside the European Union (EU) to ready their own economies for what may be an uncertain future, Peter Estlin, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, said the economic cooperation between China and the UK is likely to continue unaffected.
"China is already, in my view, being of great help, both in terms of the way it's looking to liberalize its markets and partner with the UK. Secondly, as a strong partner, it wants to have a new FTA (Free Trade Agreement) with the UK as soon as possible after leaving the EU. So those are all very welcome initiatives, and ones that we want to continue to develop," said Estlin.
Meanwhile, analysts say the Republic of Ireland will suffer collateral damage, as it shares a border with the UK. How the two countries should handle future border customs remains a thorny issue, as trade companies on both sides will be impacted. However, officials say new opportunities also lie ahead for Ireland, with it soon becoming the only English speaking country in the EU.
"We secured almost 70 international companies to invest in Ireland because of the Brexit. So they have to think about an alternative location out of UK in EU, which can help them to continue to support the European market," said Zhang Zhewei, the China Director of the Investment and Development Agency of Ireland.
Businesses crave certainty, and this also applies to people. In a recent visit to China, Ireland's Education and Skills Minister Joseph McHugh also shared with China Global Television Network (CGTN) his vision of the country's economic relationship with China looking ahead, saying the Irish path for Chinese workers remains smooth.
"We have permission visas which will facilitate them working for one year for level nine and upwards, we have a two year permission visa as well, so these are new ways of making life easier and also make it more accessible," said McHugh.
