नवी दिल्ली - भारतीय संघाचा अष्टपैलू खेळाडू इरफान पठाणने आज क्रिकेटच्या सर्व प्रकारातून निवृत्ती घेत असल्याचे जाहीर केले. त्याने निवृत्तीच्या घोषणेनंतर संघातील सहकारी, प्रशिक्षक, सपोर्ट स्टाप आणि चाहत्याचे आभार मानले. तसेच त्याने सचिन तेंडुलकर आणि सौरव गांगुली यांच्यासोबत खेळण्यास मिळाले, हे माझे भाग्य असल्याचे सांगितले. दरम्यान, इरफानने निवृत्ती जाहीर केल्यानंतर क्रिकेट विश्वातील दिग्गज खेळाडूंनी यावर प्रतिक्रिया दिल्या आहेत.
इरफानने २००३ मध्ये गोलंदाज म्हणून ऑस्ट्रेलियाविरुद्ध अॅडिलेडच्या ओव्हल मैदानात पदार्पण केले होते. तेव्हा तो १९ वर्षाचा होता. त्याच्याकडे वेगापेक्षा स्विंग करण्याची क्षमता होती. चेंडूसोबत त्याने बॅटनेही कमाल दाखवली. तेव्हा त्याची तुलना भारताचे दिग्गज अष्टपैलू खेळाडू कपिल देव यांच्याशी करण्यात येऊ लागली. मात्र, २०११-१२ या काळात खराब फॉर्ममुळे इरफानला संघातील जागा गमावावी लागली. त्याने संघात परतण्यासाठी प्रयत्न केले. पण त्याला यश आले नाही. त्याने आपला शेवटचा सामना दक्षिण आफ्रिकेविरुद्ध २ ऑक्टोबर २०१२ मध्ये खेळला.
इरफानने आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेटमध्ये २९ कसोटी, १२० एकदिवसीय आणि २४ टी-२० सामने खेळले आहेत. यामध्ये त्याने कसोटीत ११०५ धावा आणि १०० विकेट्स, एकदिवसीय मध्ये १५४४ धावा आणि १७३ विकेट्स आणि टी-२० मध्ये १७२ धावा आणि २८ विकेट्स घेतल्या आहेत.
