Bishan Singh Bedi Death : भल्याभल्यांना आपल्या फिरकीच्या तालावर नाचवणाऱ्या बिशन सिंग बेदी यांचं निधन

Bishan Singh Bedi Death : भारताचे महान फिरकीपटू बिशन सिंग बेदी यांचं निधन झालं. ते गेल्या दोन वर्षांपासून आजारी होते. त्यांनी भारताच्या पहिल्या वनडे विजयात महत्त्वाची भूमिका बजावली होती.

नवी दिल्ली : भारताचे माजी कर्णधार आणि महान फिरकीपटू बिशन सिंग बेदी यांचं सोमवारी (२३ ऑक्टोबर) निधन झालं. ते ७७ वर्षांचे होते. बेदी यांनी १९६७ ते १९७९ दरम्यान भारतासाठी ६७ कसोटीत २६६ विकेट घेतल्या आहेत.

दोन वर्षांपासून आजारी होते : बेदी गेल्या दोन वर्षांपासून आजारी होते. सुमारे महिनाभरापूर्वी त्यांच्या गुडघ्यावर शस्त्रक्रिया झाली होती. बेदी भारताच्या प्रसिद्ध फिरकी चौकडीचे भाग होते. या चौकडीत त्यांच्यासह इरापल्ली प्रसन्ना, बीएस चंद्रशेखर आणि एस वेंकटराघवन यांचाही समावेश होता. भारताच्या पहिल्या वनडे विजयात त्यांनी महत्त्वाची भूमिका बजावली होती.

प्रथम श्रेणी क्रिकेटमध्ये सर्वाधिक विकेट्स : बिशन सिंग बेदी यांचा जन्म १९४६ मध्ये अमृतसर येथे झाला. मात्र डोमेस्टिक क्रिकेटमध्ये ते दिल्लीकडून खेळले. ते प्रथम श्रेणी क्रिकेटमध्ये भारतासाठी सर्वाधिक बळी घेणारे गोलंदाज आहेत. त्यांनी ३७० सामन्यांमध्ये १५६० विकेट्स घेतल्या आहेत. बेदी यांनी १९७८-७९ आणि १९७९-८० मध्ये दिल्लीकडून खेळताना सलग दोन रणजी विजेतेपद पटकावले. त्यांच्या कार्यकाळात संघ दोनदा उपविजेताही राहिला. त्यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली दिल्लीनं पाच वर्षांच्या कालावधीत चार फायनल खेळल्या.

२२ कसोटी सामन्यांमध्ये भारताचं नेतृत्व केलं : बिशन सिंग बेदी यांनी ३१ डिसेंबर १९६६ रोजी कोलकाता येथील ऐतिहासिक ईडन गार्डन्स स्टेडियमवर भारतासाठी पहिला सामना खेळला. त्यांनी पहिली कसोटी वेस्ट इंडिजविरुद्ध खेळली. तर १९७४ मध्ये त्यांनी इंग्लंडविरुद्ध आपल्या एकदिवसीय कारकिर्दीची सुरुवात केली. बेदी यांनी २२ कसोटी सामन्यांमध्ये भारताचं नेतृत्व केलं. यापैकी टीम इंडियानं ६ जिंकले, तर ११ सामन्यांत पराभव झाला. ५ मॅच ड्रॉ झाल्या. यासह त्यांनी ४ एकदिवसीय सामन्यांमध्ये कर्णधारपद भूषवलं. यापैकी भारतानं १ जिंकला, तर ३ हारले.

दोनदा लग्न केलं होतं : बिशन सिंग बेदी यांनी दोनदा लग्न केलं. त्यांची पहिली पत्नी ऑस्ट्रेलियन होती. १९६७-६८ मध्ये भारतीय संघ ऑस्ट्रेलिया दौऱ्यावर गेला होता. यावेळी मेलबर्नमधील एका पार्टीत बिशन सिंह बेदी यांची ऑस्ट्रेलियन तरुणी ग्लेनिथशी भेट झाली. काही भेटीतच दोघं प्रेमात पडलं. नंतर लवकरच त्यांचं लग्न झालं. काही वर्षांनंतर बेदी-ग्लेनिथ यांना एक मुलगा झाला, ज्याचं नाव त्यांनी गावस इंदर सिंग ठेवलं. नावातील 'गावस' हा शब्द दिग्गज भारतीय क्रिकेटपटू सुनील गावस्कर यांच्या आडनावावरून घेण्यात आला आहे. बिशन सिंग बेदी आणि ग्लेनिथ यांचा काही वर्षांनी घटस्फोट झाला. यानंतर बेदी यांनी अंजू यांच्याशी दुसरं लग्न केलं. या दोघांना अंगद बेदी नावाचा मुलगा असून, तो प्रसिद्ध मॉडेल आणि अभिनेता आहे.
