नवी दिल्ली - पर्यावरण वाचवण्यासाठी जगभरात मुलांचे आंदोलन उभारलेल्या पर्यावरणवादी ग्रेटा थनबर्ग या १६ वर्षीय मुलीचा शाळेत न जाण्याचा हा ७१ आठवडा आहे. शाळेत जाऊन शिकून करायचे काय? उद्या आम्हाला भवितव्यच राहणार नाही, तर शाळेत जाऊ कशाला? असा थेट सवाल करत ती आंदोलन करत आहे. तिच्या आंदोलनाला जगभरातील मुलांचा मोठा पाठिंबा मिळाला आहे. भारतासह अनेक देशात मुलांनी शाळेत जाणे बंद करून हवामान बदलाविषयी आंदोलनात सहभागी होणे पसंत केले आहे.

हवामान बदलाला अनेकजण गांभीर्याने घेत नाहीत. आपल्या घराला आग लागली असताना आपण इतके निवांत गप्पा मारत कसे काय बसू शकतो? असा प्रश्न ग्रेटा वारंवार विचारत आहे. पर्यावरणाची सध्याची होत असलेली हानी आपल्या घराला लागलेल्या आगीहून कमी नसल्याची ती लोकांना जाणवून देत आहे. आज ज्या पद्धतीने कार्बनचे उत्सर्जन, विविध प्रकारची घातक प्रदूषणे सुरू आहेत, यामुळे पृथ्वीवरील अनेक प्रजाती नष्ट होत आहेत. हे असेच चालू राहिले तर जास्त नाही, येत्या १० वर्षांतच म्हणजेच २०३० पर्यंत अशी स्थिती निर्माण होईल की, आपल्याला वाटले तरी पर्यावरण सुधारण्यासाठी आपण काहीच करू शकणार नाही आणि त्यानंतरचे परिणाम हे मानव जीवासह सर्व जीवसृष्टीसाठी घातक असणार आहेत, असे ग्रेटा हवामान शास्त्रज्ञ आणि संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघटनेच्या आयपीसीसीच्या अहवालाचा आधार देऊन सांगते.
