ക്വിറ്റോ: ഇക്വഡോറില്‍ കൊടിയ ദുരിതം വിതച്ച് കനത്ത മഴ. രാജ്യതലസ്ഥാനമായ ക്വിറ്റോയില്‍ മണ്ണിടിച്ചിലിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് 24 പേർ മരിച്ചു. 48 പേർക്ക് പരിക്കേറ്റതായി സുരക്ഷ വകുപ്പ് മാധ്യമങ്ങളെ അറിയിച്ചു.
24 മണിക്കൂർ തുടര്‍ച്ചയായി പെയ്‌ത കനത്ത മഴയില്‍ പ്രദേശത്തെ മലകള്‍ ദുര്‍ബലമായതാണ് ദുരന്ത കാരണം. വീടുകൾ, കായിക മൈതാനം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലേക്ക് വെള്ളത്തോടൊപ്പം മണ്ണ് ഒലിച്ചെത്തുകയുണ്ടായി. എട്ട് വീടുകൾ പൂര്‍ണമായി തകരുകയും നിരവധി വീടുകള്‍ക്ക് കേടുപാടുകൾ സംഭവിക്കുകയും ചെയ്‌തതായി അധികൃതര്‍ അറിയിച്ചു.

സംഭവത്തില്‍ 12 പേരെ കാണാതായി. പ്രദേശവാസികളുടെയും ദുരന്ത നിവാരണ സേനയുടെയും നേതൃത്വത്തില്‍ രക്ഷാപ്രവര്‍ത്തനം പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നു. ഭൂകമ്പത്തിന് സമാനമായിരുന്നു സ്ഥിതിയെന്ന് ദുരന്ത സ്ഥലത്തെ നിവാസി ഇമെൽഡ പച്ചെക്കോ പറയുന്നു.

കനത്ത മഴ പെയ്യവെ വീട് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്‌ത ഇടത്തുനിന്നും നീങ്ങുകയുണ്ടായി. കൊടുങ്കാറ്റ് ആഞ്ഞടിക്കുകയും വീടിന്‍റെ സമീപത്തെ പ്രദേശവും പാറകളും ഒഴുകിപ്പോവുകയും ചെയ്‌തു. ഇതുകണ്ടയുടനെ വീടിന്‍റെ അകത്തുനിന്നും ഇറങ്ങി ഓടുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്ന് അവര്‍ വാര്‍ത്താഏജന്‍സിയായ എ.പിയോട് പറഞ്ഞു.
