ബോളിവുഡിലെ എക്കാലത്തെയും സ്വപ്ന നായകനും വിഷാദനായകനുമാണ് ദിലീപ് കുമാര്‍. യൂസഫ് ഖാന്‍ എന്നാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ യഥാര്‍ഥ പേര്. 1922 ഡിസംബര്‍ 11ല്‍ പാകിസ്താനിലെ പെഷാവറില്‍ ജനിച്ച അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ അഭിനയ ജീവിതം തുടങ്ങുന്നത് 1944ലാണ്.
ദേവദാസ്, നയാ ദോർ, മുഗള്‍ ഇ അസം, ഗംഗാ ജമുന, ക്രാന്തി, രാം ഔര്‍ ശ്യാം തുടങ്ങി ഒട്ടേറെ ചിത്രങ്ങളില്‍ ദിലീപ് അഭിനയിച്ചു. ബോംബെ ടാക്കീസ് ഉടമകളായിരുന്ന ദേവിക റാണിയും ഭര്‍ത്താവ് ഹിമാൻഷു റായിയുമാണ് ദിലീപ് കുമാറിനെ വെള്ളിത്തിരയിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നത്.
1994ല്‍ ദേവിക റാണി നിര്‍മിച്ച ജ്വാര്‍ ഭട്ട (1944) ആണ് ദിലീപ് കുമാറിന്‍റെ ആദ്യ ചിത്രം. 1998ല്‍ ഖില എന്ന സിനിമയിലാണ് അവസാനം അഭിനയിച്ചത്. 6 പതിറ്റാണ്ടുകളായി സിനിമയിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം 65 സിനിമകളിലാണ് അഭിനയിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്. പത്മവിഭൂഷണും ദാദാ സാഹേബ് ഫാല്‍ക്കെ പുരസ്‌കാരവും നല്‍കി രാജ്യം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ആദരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
