भारत के सायना नेहवाल और किदाम्बी श्रीकांत ने अपने-अपने वर्ग के एकल मैच जीतकर गुरुवार को यहां जारी ऑल इंग्लैंड ओपन चैम्पियनशिप के क्वार्टर फाइनल में प्रवेश कर लिया. आठवीं सीड सायना ने महिला एकल के प्री-क्वार्टर फाइनल में डेनमार्क की लिने होजमार्क क्लाएर्सफेल्ट को हराकर क्वार्टर फाइनल में कदम रखा.

बर्मिघम: श्रीकांत ने पुरुष एकल के प्री-क्वार्टर फाइनल में इंडोनेशिया से जोनाटन क्रिस्टली को मात दी. पुरुष एकल में श्रीकांत ने क्रिस्टली को 58 मिनट में 21-17, 11-21, 21-12 से मात दी. सातवीं सीड श्रीकांत ने पहले गेम में 11-7 की बढ़त के साथ शुरुआत की। इसके बाद उन्होंने 15-11 की बढ़त बनाने के बाद 21-17 से पहला गेम अपने नाम कर लिया.
