Ciro Guerra:
"At the same time, we wanted to tell the story by the indigenous communities' perspective. It's a new way of looking at it and we think this phenomenon has been narrated in a very exploitative way in the past. In the past it's been told in a way that glorifies criminals and so we wanted to tell it from our perspective as Colombians. This phenomenon was a tragedy, it was a destruction of our society and a destruction of moral values and our way of life. The truth is you never completely get that from the other narratives that touch this theme. You almost always end up seeing these bandits or criminals as heroic figures and they just make this spectacle of the pain that we have suffered."

Since this is a family tragedy, it's sparked real family stories and personal stories to resurface and we think that's the reaction we wanted to happen.  We wanted it to generate shock."

So, I think it's a movie that makes you examine many things. Not so much to demonize or to think that capitalism is a bad thing, but rather about the moment that things get lost out of balance."
