बर्मिंगहॅम: भारतीय महिला हॉकी संघाने बर्मिंगहॅम येथे सुरू असलेल्या राष्ट्रकुल क्रीडा 2022 ( CWG 2022 ) मध्ये अप्रतिम कामगिरी केली. उपांत्य फेरीच्या सामन्यात ऑस्ट्रेलियाकडून पराभूत झाल्यानंतर भारताला कांस्यपदक जिंकण्याची संधी होती आणि त्या संधीचे भारतीय महिला संघाने सोने केले. भारतीय महिला हॉकी संघाने राष्ट्रकुल स्पर्धेत प्रथमच कांस्यपदक जिंकले ( Indian women hockey team won bronze medal ) आहे. कांस्यपदकाच्या लढतीत भारतीय संघाने न्यूझीलंडचा शूटआऊटमध्ये पराभव केला.

भारताचा मुख्य सामना न्यूझीलंडशी 1-1 असा बरोबरीत झाला. अशा स्थितीत सामन्याचा निकाल शूटआऊटद्वारे लागला, त्यात भारताचा विजय झाला. भारताने शूटआउट 2-1 ने जिंकले आणि यासह भारताने राष्ट्रकुल स्पर्धेत तिसऱ्यांदा पदक जिंकले ( India beat New Zealand 2-1 ).

भारताचा एकमेव गोल सलीमा टेटे ( Hockey player Salima Tete ) हिने दुसऱ्या क्वार्टरच्या 14व्या मिनिटाला हाफ टाईमपूर्वी करत भारताला 1-0 अशी आघाडी मिळवून दिली, जी शेवटपर्यंत कायम राहिली. अगदी शेवटच्या चार मिनिटांत न्यूझीलंडच्या संघानेही आपला गोलरक्षक दूर केला, पण भारताला गोल करता आला नाही, तर किवी संघाने शेवटच्या मिनिटाला पेनल्टी कॉर्नरवरून गोल केला आणि सामना शूटआऊटपर्यंत पोहोचला.

याआधीही भारताने सुवर्ण आणि रौप्य पदके जिंकली आहेत, मात्र 16 वर्षांनंतर पहिल्यांदाच भारतीय महिला हॉकी संघ पदक जिंकण्यात यशस्वी ठरला आहे. गेल्या वर्षी टोकियो येथे झालेल्या ऑलिम्पिक स्पर्धेत भारताला उपांत्य फेरीनंतर कांस्यपदकाच्या सामन्यात पराभवाला सामोरे जावे लागले होते. CWG 2022 मधील भारताचे हे 41 वे पदक ( India 41st medal )आहे. भारताने आतापर्यंत 13 सुवर्ण, 11 रौप्य आणि 17 कांस्य पदके जिंकली आहेत.
