"Many companies have brought us many high-tech ideas and equipment. They are trying to invent something and are scratching their heads (to help save the boy). What we managed to do now was to perforate a bit of the blockage reaching 70 metres deep (the well could be as deep as 150 metres), to open a 30 centimetre large hole. We have still not located the boy. We will continue with three options: one, try to extract soil with the help of a truck; two, dig a second parallel well - the problem is we must protect the first one because it is not secure so we must secure it first so it doesn't collapse; three, we will also try to excavate from the side of the mountain. Until now all we want is to thank the number of companies and individuals that are helping us and well, we will continue here until we locate the boy."

STORYLINE:
More than 100 firefighters and emergency workers in southern Spain are searching for a 2-year-old toddler who fell into a narrow and deep well on Sunday.
Spanish authorities said firefighters found a bag of sweets that the boy was carrying when he went missing early Sunday afternoon.
Rescuers believe the boy fell into the 100-metre- (328-foot-) deep waterhole in a mountainous area near the town of Totalan after he walked away from his parents.
The shaft, which is too narrow for an adult to enter, had been bored a month before in water prospecting works but had not been covered or protected, local media reported.
Rescuers are trying to avoid blocking the small diameter of the well with falling soil as they search for the boy.
Civil Guard spokesman Bernardo Molto said rescuers were considering several options for how to locate and save the boy.
Molto also said that many companies had offered high-tech equipment to help in the rescue operations, and many individuals were giving assistance.
