കൊല്‍ക്കത്ത: പഞ്ചാബിനെതിരായ ജയത്തോടെ പ്ലേ ഓഫിലേക്കുള്ള പോരാട്ടം കടുപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ് കൊല്‍ക്കത്ത നൈറ്റ് റൈഡേഴ്‌സ്. പോയിന്‍റ് പട്ടികയില്‍ എട്ടാം സ്ഥാനത്തായിരുന്ന അവര്‍ പഞ്ചാബിനെ വീഴ്‌ത്തിയതോടെ അഞ്ചാം സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് മുന്നേറി. നിലവില്‍ 11 മത്സരങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നും 10 പോയിന്‍റാണ് കൊല്‍ക്കത്തയ്‌ക്കുള്ളത്.
ഈഡന്‍ ഗാര്‍ഡന്‍സില്‍ നടന്ന മത്സരത്തില്‍ അവസാന പന്ത് വരെ നീണ്ട പോരാട്ടത്തിനൊടുവിലായിരുന്നു കൊല്‍ക്കത്ത നിര്‍ണായക ജയം പിടിച്ചത്. കൈവിട്ടെന്ന് തോന്നിപ്പിച്ച മത്സരം ആന്ദ്രേ റസല്‍ ആതിഥേയര്‍ക്കായി തിരികെ പിടിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. 23 പന്ത് നേരിട്ട് 42 റണ്‍സടിച്ചുകൂട്ടിയ റസല്‍ കൊല്‍ക്കത്തയുടെ ജയത്തിന് തൊട്ടരികിലാണ് വീണത്.

മത്സരത്തിന്‍റെ 14-ാം ഓവറില്‍ വെങ്കിടേഷ് അയ്യര്‍ പുറത്തായതിന് പിന്നാലെയായിരുന്നു ആന്ദ്രേ റസല്‍ ക്രീസിലേക്ക് എത്തിയത്. ഈ സമയം 13.4 ഓവറില്‍ മൂന്ന് വിക്കറ്റ് നഷ്‌ടത്തില്‍ 115 എന്ന നിലയിലായിരുന്നു കൊല്‍ക്കത്ത. അവസാന ആറ് ഓവറില്‍ 65 റണ്‍സായിരുന്നു ജയം പിടിക്കാനായി അവര്‍ക്ക് വേണ്ടിയിരുന്നത്.

16-ാം ഓവറില്‍ അര്‍ധസെഞ്ച്വറി നേടിയ നായകന്‍ നിതീഷ് റാണയെ കൊല്‍ക്കത്തയ്‌ക്ക് നഷ്‌ടമായി. ഈ സമയം 124 റണ്‍സായിരുന്നു കെകെആറിന്‍റെ സ്‌കോര്‍ ബോര്‍ഡിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. സീസണില്‍ ഇതുവരെ ബാറ്റിങ്ങില്‍ താളം കണ്ടെത്താത്ത റസലിന് കൊല്‍ക്കത്തയെ ജയത്തിലേക്ക് എത്തിക്കാനാകുമോയെന്ന ആശങ്കയിലായിരുന്നു ആരാധകര്‍.

പതിഞ്ഞ താളത്തില്‍ ബാറ്റിങ് തുടങ്ങിയ റസല്‍ ആദ്യം നേരിട്ട 14 പന്തില്‍ നിന്നും 20 റണ്‍സായിരുന്നു സ്‌കോര്‍ ചെയ്‌തത്. അവസാന ഘട്ടത്തിലേക്ക് മത്സരം നീങ്ങിയതോടെ ഈഡനില്‍ റസലും ആളിപ്പടര്‍ന്നു. അവസാന രണ്ട് ഓവറില്‍ 26 റണ്‍സ് ആയിരുന്നു കൊല്‍ക്കത്തയ്‌ക്ക് ജയം സ്വന്തമാക്കാന്‍ വേണ്ടിയിരുന്നത്.

സാം കറന്‍ എറിഞ്ഞ ഓവറിലെ രണ്ടും മൂന്നും പന്ത് സ്‌ക്വയര്‍ ലെഗിലൂടെയാണ് റസല്‍ ഗാലറിയിലെത്തിച്ചത്. നാലാം പന്തില്‍ താരത്തിന് റണ്‍സ് കണ്ടെത്താനായില്ല. പിന്നാലെ അഞ്ചാം പന്തിലും റസല്‍ സിക്‌സര്‍ പറത്തി.
