An isolation belt has been built to keep the forest fire under control in Qinyuan of north China's Shanxi Province, with people in affected areas evacuated to safety, said provincial government officials in charge of the firefighting at a press conference held in the county on Monday.
The forest fire broke out in Qinyuan last Friday. No casualties have been reported as yet.
Multiple methods were taken to put out the fire, such as chemical fire extinguishing and aviation fire extinguishing. The fire was brought under control after two days and three nights of fighting. The firefighting headquarters, composed of government officials and relevant experts, said that the isolation belt was built overnight.
"We cleared up an isolation belt of 3.7 km long and 80 meters wide overnight, which has been connected with the existing north-to-east 5 km isolation belt and roads and ditches, forming a 40-kilometer isolation and defense line, completely enclosing the fire zone," said Wang Yanfeng, deputy secretary general of the provincial government of Shanxi.
According to the firefighting headquarters, a total of 15,234 people have been involved in the firefighting, along with 13 aircrafts. The headquarters also conducted evacuation of people in 41 villages and 18 enterprises close to the fire zone. Nine coal mines and nine chemical enterprises were temporarily shut down to prevent any hazards triggered by the forest fire, while explosive dangerous goods in the enterprises were transferred to safety.
Guo Fulin, chief engineer of the Shanxi Aviation Group, said that the coordination between air and ground was quite effective.
