केप टाऊन - खूप काळ दुखापतीला सामोरे जावे लागलेल्या वेगवान गोलंदाज डेल स्टेनने आज निवृत्ती जाहीर केली आहे. डेल स्टेन आता कसोटी क्रिकेट खेळताना दिसणार नाही. दक्षिण आफ्रिकेच्या क्रिकेट असोसिएशने डेल स्टेनच्या निवृत्तीबाबत माहिती दिली आहे.

३६ वर्षीय डेल स्टेन म्हणाला, 'आज मी क्रिकेटच्या अशा प्रकारातून निवृत्त होत आहे, जिथून मला सर्वात जास्त प्रेम मिळाले. कसोटी क्रिकेट हा सर्वात चांगला प्रकार आहे, असे मी मानतो. यामध्ये आपला मानसिक, शारिरीक आणि भावनिकतेचा कस लागतो.' तो पुढे म्हणाला, 'पुन्हा कसोटी क्रिकेट खेळू शकणार नाही, याचा विचार करून वाईट वाटत आहे. यापुढे मी एकदिवसीय आणि टी २० क्रिकेटवर जास्त लक्ष देणार आहे.'
२००४ मध्ये डेल स्टेनने इंग्लंडविरूद्ध कसोटी पदार्पण केले होते. तो दक्षिण आफ्रिकेचा सर्वात यशस्वी गोलंदाज म्हणून ओळखला जातो.
डेल स्टेनने एकूण ९३ कसोटी सामन्यांमध्ये दक्षिण आफ्रिकेचे प्रतिनिधित्व केले आहे. त्याने २२.९५ च्या सरासरीने ४३९ बळी घेतले आहे. यंदाच्या विश्वकरंडक स्पर्धेतून डेल स्टेन दुखापतीमुळे बाहेर पडला होता.
