पेरिस: टॉप सीड रोमानिया की सिमोना हालेप ने रविवार से यहां शुरू हुए फ्रेंच ओपन में विजयी शुरुआत करते हुए दूसरे दौर में जगह बना ली है. हालेप ने महिला एकल वर्ग के पहले दौर में सारा सोरिब्स टारमो को सीधे सेटों में 6-4, 6-0 से हराकर अगले दौर में प्रवेश किया. हालेप की ये लगातार 15वीं जीत है.
2018 में यहां फ्रेंच ओपन का खिताब जीतने वाली हालेप ने शुरुआत में कई गलतियां की और 2-4 से पीछे थी. लेकिन इसके बाद उन्होंने शानदार वापसी की और जीत अपने नाम कर ली.

हालेप की विश्व रैंकिंग दूसरी है, लेकिन वर्ल्ड नंबर-1 और मौजूदा चैंपियन ऑस्ट्रेलिया की एश्नेग बार्टी कोरोना के कारण इस टूर्नामेंट में भाग नहीं ले रही है, इसलिए हालेप को टॉप सीड दी गई है.
अगले दौर में हालेप का सामना हमवतन इरिना कैमिलया बेगु और स्विटजरलैंड की जिल टिचमैन के बीच होने वाले मुकाबले की विजेता खिलाड़ी से होगा.
एक अन्य मुकाबले में, अमेरिका ओपन की उपविजेता विक्टोरिया अजारेंका ने डेंका कोविनिच को सीधे सेटों में 6-1, 6-2 से हराकर दूसरे दौर में प्रवेश किया.
अगले दौर में उनका सामना वीनस विलियम्स और एना कैरोलिना के बीच होने वाले मुकाबले की विजेता से होगा. अजारेंका 2013 में यहां सेमीफाइनल में पहुंची थी.

वर्षा बाधित इस मैच में अजारेंका ने मैच के दौरान बहुत ठंड होने की शिकायत की. उन्होंने कहा, "मैं यहां एक भी मिनट नहीं रूक सकती हूं क्योंकि यहां बहुत ठंड है. यहां आठ डिग्री तापमान है. मैं फ्लोरिडा में रहती हूं, जहां मैं गर्म मौसम में रहती हूं."
