Manohar Singh Gill: पंचतत्व में विलीन हुए पूर्व चीफ इलेक्शन कमिश्नर एमएस गिल, लोगों ने नम आंखों से दी विदाई

पूर्व चीफ इलेक्शन कमिश्नर (CEC) मनोहर सिंह गिल का पार्थिव शरीर, सोमवार को लोधी रोड शमशान घाट ले जाया गया, जहां उनका अंतिम संस्कार किया गया. इससे पहले तबीयत खराब होने के बाद उन्हें दिल्ली के एक अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया था, जहां उन्होंने रविवार को आखिरी सांस ली थी.

नई दिल्ली: पूर्व चीफ इलेक्शन कमिश्नर (CEC) मनोहर सिंह गिल का सोमवार को अंतिम संस्कार किया गया. इससे पहले दक्षिणी दिल्ली के एक अस्पताल में रविवार को उनका निधन हो गया था. उनके अंतिम संस्कार में कई नेता व गणमान्य लोग शामिल हुए. उनका अंतिम संस्कार लोधी रोड शमशान घाट पर किया गया. पद्म विभूषण से सम्मानित मनोहर सिंह गिल के परिवार में उनकी पत्नी और तीन बेटियां हैं. उनके निधन की खबर पर कांग्रेस समेत अन्य राजनीतिक दलों ने शोक जाहिर किया.

कांग्रेस सरकार में खेल मंत्री रहे गिल
उन्होंने 1996 से 2001 तक भारत के मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त के रूप में काम किया था. वह कांग्रेस सरकार में यूथ अफेयर और खेल मंत्री भी रहे. इसके साथ ही उन्होंने सांख्यिकी और कार्यक्रम कार्यान्वयन मंत्री का पद भी संभाला. पंजाब कैडर के पूर्व भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा अधिकारी गिल 2004 में कांग्रेस के टिकट पर राज्यसभा के लिए चुने गए थे. 1980 के दशक में पंजाब के कृषि सचिव के रूप में कार्य करने के बाद उन्होंने 'एन इंडियन सक्सेस स्टोरी, एग्रीकल्चर एंड कोऑपरेटिव्स' नामक पुस्तक भी लिखी थी.

गिल के निधन पर पंजाब के पूर्व सीएम अमरिंदर सिंह समेत देश के तमाम राजनीतिक दलों की तरफ से संवेदना व्यक्त की गई है. शोक जताते हुए कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खरगे ने एक्स पर एक पोस्ट में कहा, "पूर्व केंद्रीय मंत्री, पद्म विभूषण, मनोहर सिंह गिल के निधन पर बेहद दुख हुआ. मैं ईश्वर से उनकी आत्मा की शांति के लिए प्रार्थना करता हूं."

पंजाब के पूर्व CM कैप्टन अमरिंदर सिंह ने भी गिल के निधन पर दुख व्यक्त किया है. उन्होंने कहा, "पूर्व CEC और केंद्रीय मंत्री डॉ मनोहर सिंह गिल के निधन के बारे में सुनकर दुखी हूं. मेरी हार्दिक संवेदनाएं उनके परिवार के साथ है मैं वाहेगुरु से दिवंगत आत्मा को शांति प्रदान करने की प्रार्थना करता हूं."
