લંડન : ઇંગ્લેન્ડના પૂર્વ હરફનમૌલા ખેલાડી પીટર વોલ્કરનું 84 વર્ષની ઉંમરે નિધન થયુ છે. તેઓએ ઇંગ્લેન્ડ માટે ત્રણ ટેસ્ટ મેચ પણ રમ્યા છે. આ ત્રણ મેચ તેઓએ દક્ષિણ આફ્રીકા વિરૂદ્ધ વર્ષ 1960માં રમ્યા હતા.
મીડિયા રિપોર્ટ અનુસાર વોલ્કરનું નિધન સ્ટ્રોકના કારણે થયુ હતુ.
વોલ્કર પોતાના આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય કરિયરમાં માત્ર 128 રન જ બનાવી શક્યા છે. જેમાં તેનો હાઇએસ્ટ સ્કોર 52 રન છે. ગ્લામોર્ગન સાથે તેઓ 16 વર્ષ સુધી પ્રથમ કક્ષાનું ક્રિકેટ રમ્યા છે. આ સમયે 469 મેચમાં 13 શતક અને 92 અર્ધ શતક ફટકાર્યા છે. આ સાથે 834 વિકેટ પણ લીધી છે. ડાબોડીમાં ફાસ્ટ બોલિંગ કર્યા બાદ સ્પીન બોલીંગ પણ શરૂ કરી હતી. પીટર વોલ્કર એક સારા ઓલરાઉન્ડર ઉપરાંત ફિલ્ડર પણ હતા.
પીટર વોલ્કરે 1970માં ડર્બીશાયર વિરૂદ્ધ મેચમાં 8 કેચ ઝડપ્યા હતા. 1961માં તેઓએ 67 કેચ પકડી રેકોર્ડ બનાવ્યો હતો, વોકરે કરિયરમાં 656 કેચ ઝડપ્યા છે.

ઇંગ્લેન્ડ એન્ડ વોલ્સ ક્રિકેટ બોર્ડના એક નિવેદનમાં કહેવામાં આવ્યુ છે કે, ' પોતાના કરિયરના અંતમાં મીડિયા સાથે કામ કરી રહેલા વોલ્કર 1996માં ECBના મુખ્ય કાર્યકારી પણ રહી ચુક્યા છે અને 2009થી 2010 સુધી ગ્લોમોર્ગનના અધ્યક્ષ પણ રહી ચુક્યા છે. ECB સિવાય ગ્લોમોર્ગને પણ પિટર વોલ્કરના નિધન પર શોક જતાવ્યો છે.
