মুম্বই, 10 জুন : সুনীল গাভাসকরের আজ 71 তম জন্মদিন ৷ আর 71 তম জন্মদিনে শ্রী সত্য সাঁই সঞ্জীবনি হাসপাতালের 35 শিশুর হার্ট সার্জারির উদ্যোগ নিলেন তিনি ৷
গত বছরের জন্মদিনেও এরকমই উদ্যোগ নিয়েছিলেন তিনি ৷ দেশের হয়ে 35টি শতরান করেছেন ৷ তাই প্রতি বছর 35 শিশুর হার্ট সার্জারির দায়িত্ব নেন তিনি ৷ সর্বভারতীয় একটি সংবাদপত্রে গাভাসকর জানান, ‘‘মানুষ জীবনে একাধিক জায়গায় তাঁর ছাপ ছাড়তে পারে ৷ আমার কাছে শিশুদের বিশেষ গুরুত্ব আছে ৷ তারা প্রত্যেক পরিবারের আনন্দের কারণ এবং ভবিষ্যতের আলোও বলা চলে ৷’’

এই বিশেষ উদ্যোগের কারণ জানতে চাওয়া হয় বিশ্বের প্রথম ব্যাটসম্যান হিসেবে 10 হাজার রানের গণ্ডি টপকানো গাভাসকরের কাছে ৷ তিনি বলেন, দুর্ভাগ্যবশত ভারতে জন্ম থেকে হৃদরোগে আক্রান্ত হওয়া স্বাভাবিক বিষয় হয়ে গেছে ৷ অনেকের সুস্থ জীবন-যাপন করার কোনও সুযোগই থাকে না ৷ তারা বেশিরভাগই গরিব পরিবারের সদস্য ৷ হার্ট টু হার্ট ফাউন্ডেশনের হয়ে কাজ করেন গাভাসকর ৷ তিনি বলেন, ‘‘আমরা 100-র বেশি শিশুকে জীবন ফিরিয়ে দিয়েছি ৷’’
