ಹಿಂದಿಯ ಗೀತ ರಚನಾಕಾರ ಜಾವೇದ್ ಅಖ್ತರ್ ಇಂದು 76ನೇ ವಸಂತಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಲಿಟ್ಟು ಹುಟ್ಟು ಹಬ್ಬದ ಸಂಭ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬಹುಮುಖ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯಾಗಿರುವ ಜಾವೇದ್, ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಹೋರಾಟಗಾರ, ಕವಿ, ಸಾಹಿತಿ, ಚಿತ್ರಕಥೆಗಾರರೂ ಹೌದು. ಇವರಿಗೆ ಪದ್ಮಶ್ರೀ, ಪದ್ಮಭೂಷಣ, ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹಲವು ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗಳು ಸಹ ಲಭಿಸಿವೆ.
ಜಾವೇದ್ ಅಖ್ತರ್ ಅವರ ಮೂಲ ಹೆಸರು ಜಾದು. ಆದರೆ ಕಾಲಾ ನಂತರ ಇವರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಜಾವೇದ್ ಅಖ್ತರ್ ಎಂದು ಬದಲಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಇನ್ನು ತಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಹಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಇವರಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ 8ನೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಮಾತೃವಿಯೋಗವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇನ್ನು ಜಾವೇದ್ ಅವರ 8ನೇ ವರ್ಷದ ಹುಟ್ಟು ಹಬ್ಬದ ಹಿಂದಿನ ದಿನ ಅವರ ತಾಯಿ ವಿಧಿವಶರಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ಅಖ್ತರ್ ತಾಯಿ, ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಏನನ್ನಾದರೂ ಮಾಡು, ಏನಾದರೂ ಒಂದು ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು, ಆ ಮಾತೇ ಜಾವೇದ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿ ಆಗಿತ್ತಂತೆ.
ಜವೇದ್ ಅಕ್ತಾರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಪತ್ನಿ ಇನ್ನು ಜಾವೇದ್ ಎರಡು ಮದುವೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಮೊದಲ ಮಡದಿಯ ಹೆಸರು ಹನಿ ಇರಾನಿ. ನಂತ್ರ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬರನ್ನು ಮದುವೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ಅವರ ಹೆಸರು ಶಬಾನ ಅಜ್ಮಿ. ಆದ್ರೆ ಎರಡನೇ ಮದುವೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಮೊದಲ ಮಡದಿ ಹನಿ ಇರಾನಿ ವಿಚ್ಚೇದನ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಹೋಗ್ತಾರೆ.

Javed Akhtar, the magician of words turns a year older today. On lyrical maestro's birthday, we bring you some lesser-known facts about the renowned lyricist who began his journey in filmdom as a clapper boy.
There is an interesting story behind Javed Akhtar's real name, Jadu. The name was taken from his father, the famous poet Jan Nisar Akhta's poem Lamha lamha kisi jadu ka fasana hoga. Later, Jadu was replaced by phonetically nearest sounding Javed.
Javed, who was very close to his mother, had lost her at the age of eight. When Javed was six-year-old, his mother had identified that her firstborn has tremendous command over Urdu.
Javed's mother, Safia Akhtar a singer, teacher and writer passed away exactly one day after his eighth birthday. Javed had promised his mother to "do something in life, become something in life." The words that he gave to his mom kept him floating in toughest of times in Mumbai.
Javed shares his birthday, January 17, with his first wife Honey Irani. The duo had first met on the sets of Seeta Aur Geeta. Javed asked Salim Khan to take his proposal to Honey’s mother. Interestingly, the scene in Sholay where Amitabh Bachchan takes Dharmendra’s proposal to Hema Malini’s aunt Leela Mishra was a take-off on this real-life proposal.
Javed Akhtar used to assist Urdu poet Kaifi Azmi. He subsequently married Kaifi's daughter, Shabana Azmi, after his marriage to Honey Irani ended in a divorce.
When Javed Akhtar arrived in Mumbai in 1964, he was a homeless man without any food or shelter. He struggled to find work in the Hindi film industry. He used to sleep under trees, or in corridors, until he took shelter in Kamal Amrohi Studio in Jogeshwari. He was employed by Amrohi as a clapper boy.
Salim Khan met Javed Akhtar for the first time while filming Sarhadi Lootera. Javed then graduated as dialogue-writer from clapper boy of the film as director SM Sagar was unable to find one.
Salim-Javed then reinvented the Bollywood formula with an extraordinary lineup of super hits, becoming game changers at a time when screenwriting was dismissed as a back-room job. In 70s scriptwriters weren't given credit on film posters but Salim and Javed, who were sure of their worth decided to paint their names on the posters of the films they have worked on.
His association with Salim Khan lasted until 1980. After the split, Akhtar went solo and wrote some scripts, but mostly moved into writing lyrics for films, in which he achieved success.
Javed's illustrious career is adorned with awards and adulation. The ace screenwriter has won the Filmfare Award fourteen times - seven times for Best Script, and seven times for Best Lyrics. He has won the National Award five times. In 2013, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award in Urdu, India's second highest literary honour, for his poetry collection Lava.
