कोलकाता: भारत के सबसे पुराने क्लबों में से एक ईस्ट बंगाल ने अपने 100 साल पूरे कर लिए हैं और इस मौके पर बाइचुंग भूटिया ने क्लब के साथ जीते एसईएएन कप, मोहन बागान के खिलाफ फेडरेशन कप सेमीफाइनल हैट्रिक, नेशनल फुटबॉल लीग की जीत को अपनी शीर्ष-3 सर्वश्रेष्ठ यादों में बताया है.
भारतीय टीम के पूर्व कप्तान भूटिया ने अपने करियर की शुरुआत 1992 में ईस्ट बंगाल के साथ ही की थी. वो क्लब के साथ हर एक खिताब जीतने में सफल रहे.
भूटिया ने एक इंटरव्यू में कहा, "मैं क्लब के साथ 10 साल खेला और मेरी क्लब के साथ कुछ यादें हैं. ये भारत के महान क्लबों में से एक है जिसका एक शानदार इतिहास है. मेरे लिए, ये सिर्फ शानदार यादों की बात है."

भूटिया से जब क्लब के साथ अपने सर्वश्रेष्ठ पल के बारे में पूछा गया तो उन्होंने 1997 फेडरेशन कप के सेमीफाइनल में पारंपरिक प्रतिद्वंद्वी मोहन बागान के खिलाफ लगाई गई हैट्रिक को याद किया. इसके अलावा एएसईएएन कप की जीत और नेशनल फुटबॉल लीग की जीत को बताया.
भूटिया ने कहा, "मैं एएसईएन कप, फिर मेरी हैट्रिक और ईस्ट बंगाल के साथ लीग को जीतना, मैं उन्हें चुनूंगा. मैं इनको हमेशा याद रखूंगा."
ईस्ट बंगाल ने 26 जुलाई 2003 को भारतीय फुटबॉल में इतिहास रचते हुए एएसईएन कप जीता था. ईस्ट बंगाल आधिकारिक तौर पर मान्यता प्राप्त एशियाई फुटबॉल टूर्नामेंट को जीतने वाला भारत का पहला फुटबॉल क्लब बना था. भूटिया उसमें सबसे ज्यादा गोल करने वाले खिलाड़ी रहे थे.
