नई दिल्ली : रेलवे बोर्ड की संचालन और व्यवसाय विकास सदस्य जया वर्मा ने रविवार को बताया कि प्रारंभिक निष्कर्षों के अनुसार, बालासोर में ट्रेनों के टक्कर के बाद हादसे का कारण सिग्नलिंग की कोई समस्या रही. उन्होंने कहा कि बोर्ड अभी भी रेलवे सुरक्षा आयुक्त की विस्तृत रिपोर्ट का इंतजार कर रहा है. उन्होंने कहा कि सिर्फ कोरोमंडल एक्सप्रेस हादसे का शिकार हुई. इस ट्रेन की गति लगभग 128 किमी/घंटा थी. हालांकि, उन्होंने इसे ओवरस्पीडिंग का मामला नहीं माना. जया वर्मा ने रविवार को पत्रकारों के सवालों का जवाब देते हुए कहा कि माल गाडी में आयरन ओर भरा हुआ था.

जिसकी वजह से टक्कर का सारा इम्पैक्ट यात्रियों से भरी कोरोमंडल एक्सप्रेस पर पड़ा. उन्होंने कहा कि मालगाड़ी पटरी से नहीं उतरी. चूंकि मालगाड़ी लौह अयस्क ले जा रही थी, इसलिए सबसे ज्यादा नुकसान कोरोमंडल एक्सप्रेस को हुआ. यह बड़ी संख्या में मौतों और चोटों का कारण है. कोरोमंडल एक्सप्रेस जो 128 किमी/घंटा की रफ्तार से चल रही थी यशवंतपुर एक्सप्रेस की आखिरी दो बोगियों से टकरा गईं.
