They should not depend on education because, many of our children are educated, have gone to school but there are no white-collar jobs."

Then she takes you into details and starts with the list feature, whether it is USB, whether it is Bluetooth, whether it is mirror link, or whatever. Then she explains to you how to use different features in each and every radio. What is amazing is her grasp of the different features that by the time you leave there as a customer, you are happy and you are satisfied that she is the best installer. Even given her age, something you are not going to get in some of these young and upcoming installers."

She is the one who set bluetooth up for me and everything and told me I am ok and now I will not be stopped by the police for talking on the phone while driving so I am happy. But the most amazing thing is her age and the job she is doing but she is real and she does it with her own hands."

It means youth, young people, give your talent time. Give your passion time, do not rush for quick money, be a master of your skill."

LEADIN:
Car radios are booming with sound in the Nairobi slums of Kariobangi thanks to 80 year old sound technician Cecilia Wangari Kiminda better known as Shosh.
Her shop, Shosh Sound Systems has gained a following where people gather outside to watch her at work not only because of her good service but also to take a look at an old lady dealing with ease with the latest technology.
STORYLINE:
Born during the World War II in 1938, Kiminda's reputation has gained momentum in what she calls her 'sunset years' as she has been installing and repairing car sound systems for the last thirty years.
Kiminda refuses to spend her old age in the village while her children financially support her, as far as she is concerned  Shosh Sound Systems will remain open for as long as she can still hold a screw driver and a soldering gun.
Shosh, as she is commonly known, fixes audio, video and Bluetooth-telephone systems for cars, is a sound technology consultant for a local radio station and her company Shosh Sound Systems also sells top of the range sound technology.
Kiminda knows that her services have gained a reputation for being reliable and efficient.
"Whenever I work for a customer like this one, and they confirm their music is nice, and that the work is perfect, they are very happy. They go tell others who also come. When they hear I'm an old lady, some come to see for themselves. Actually some come not for system installation but to see whether it is true or not." says Kiminda.
Kiminda has had many other jobs in the past working as a grocer, running a supermarket, and various jobs in the transport industry.
In one particular period when Kiminda would go to the garage to have her buses repaired, she would keenly watch over the shoulders of the bus mechanics.
Suddenly, she identified a gap in the industry. She felt that with Nairobi's terrible traffic issues a good sound system would keep commuters entertained as people were spending more time in traffic snarl ups.
She then went home and advised one of her grandsons to do a technical course in electronics majoring in radio and sound systems.
It was from the books and practical lessons from her grandson that Kiminda learnt to disassemble and assemble a whole car sound system.
She draws her aggressive mentality from her parents who she saw as hard workers who 'ate their sweat.' Her father worked for East Africa Railways before joining the Kenya's independence war of Maumau where he died.
The aging granny always advises young people to work hard that one day, they will prosper.
"What I can encourage young people is to stop saying there are no jobs. Let them work hard. Even if it is shoe shining, roasting green maize or even newspaper vending."
Most of her customers are impressed by her knowledge and dedication.
"Whatever product you will choose, she will advise you on what is best for your car. Even given her age, something you are not going to get in some of these young and upcoming installers," says customer Francis Kieti.
Radio Director Julius Owino was immediately taken aback by Kiminda's talent.
"When working on your talent, it sometimes doesn't pay immediately. You can observe Shosh as old as she is, she knows about headphones, the sound. This is not a car stereo, this is Ghetto radio studios and she can move around, talk to the DJ, help the DJ, assist us on techniques and as old as she is. It means youth, young people, give your talent time. Give your passion time, do not rush for quick money, be a master of your skill," he says.
Together with her children and grandchildren, the 80-year-old has created an enterprise that employs 17 people working daily at different branches spread across Nairobi.
