ওয়াংখেড়েতে সেমি-ফাইনালে জয়ের নায়ক মহম্মদ শামি । ভারতকে খাদের কিনারা থেকে ফাইনালেই তুললেন না, একাধিক রেকর্ড গড়ে বুঝিয়ে দিলেন বল হাতে তিনিই সম্রাট ।

নিউজিল্যান্ডের বিরুদ্ধে 7 উইকেট নিয়ে দলকে ফাইনালে তুললেন । প্রথম ভারতীয় বোলার হিসেবে এক ইনিংসে সাত শিকারের নজির গড়লেন শামি । বিশ্বকাপের ইতিহাসে দ্রুততম 50 উইকেটের মালিক হলেন বঙ্গপেসার । 17 ইনিংসে উইকেটের অর্ধ-শতরান করলেন শামি । টপকে গেলেন মিচেল স্টার্ককে (19 ইনিংস) । পাশাপাশি বিশ্বকাপে এক ইনিংসে 5 উইকেট নেওয়ার নিরিখেও টপকে গেলেন মিচেল স্টার্ককে । এই নিয়ে 4 বার এক ইনিংসে 5 উইকেট নিলেন শামি । একই সঙ্গে চলতি বিশ্বকাপে সর্বোচ্চ উইকেট শিকারির তালিকায় শীর্ষে উঠে এলেন বাংলার পেসার ।
