2011ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸೇನೆ ಧೋನಿಗೆ ಲೆಫ್ಟಿನಂಟ್​​ ಕರ್ನಲ್​​​ ಗೌರವ ನೀಡಿತ್ತು. ಅದೇ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ತರಬೇತಿ ಶಿಬಿರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಇದೇ ವರ್ಷ ಆಸ್ಟ್ರೇಲಿಯಾ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ನಡೆದಿದ್ದ ಏಕದಿನ ಪಂದ್ಯದ ವೇಳೆ ಧೋನಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಇತರೆ ಆಟಗಾರರು ಪುಲ್ವಾಮಾ ದಾಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೃತಪಟ್ಟ ಯೋದರ ಸ್ಮರಣಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ಆರ್ಮಿ ಕ್ಯಾಪ್​ ಧರಿಸಿ ಆಡಿದ್ದರು.
