हिमाचल प्रदेश क्रिकेट एसोसिएशन (एचपीसीए) स्टेडियम में बारिश से प्रभावित मैच में कप्तान स्कॉट एडवर्ड्स के 69 गेंदों में नाबाद 78 रन की मदद से नीदरलैंड ने 7 विकेट पर 140 रन से उबरकर आठ विकेट पर 245 रन का सम्मानजनक स्कोर बनाया. इसके बाद नीदरलैंड के गेंदबाजों ने शानदार प्रदर्शन किया और दक्षिण अफ्रीका को 42.5 ओवरों में 207 रनों पर समेट दिया, जिससे मौजूदा विश्व कप में दूसरा बड़ा उलटफेर हुआ.
38 रन की जीत नीदरलैंड की अपने विश्व कप इतिहास में टेस्ट खेलने वाले देश के खिलाफ पहली और वनडे विश्व कप के इतिहास में केवल तीसरी जीत थी.
